Sorry if this sounds really stupid lol but the instructions on the formula (we use cow and gate) are based around age and an assumed weight at that age. My baby doesn't fit into any of the weight corresponding with age ones as she was small, so - Do I give the recommended amount for her age or for her weight?

For her age she should be having 4oz
For her weight 3oz

She will drink the 4oz but is also a little sick after feeds so now I think maybe I'm overfeeding her!

Thanks

I was doing it according to Jessica's age, and she seemed to be drinking more than what was on the box of cow and gate, but when my health visitor came round, she said to do it according to weight?! When i checked Jessica's weight against the amount of milk she was having, it matched up a little better. i don't pay too much attention to what's on the box though, I just feed her until she doesn't want anymore, the amounts can vary xxx

I would try 3 and if she is still hungry just give her another oz:) sometimes you'll notice she'll eat more and sometimes less depends on the baby and the day really:)

My LO's weight doesn't match her age on the guidelines of the carton either. I asked my HV about these and she said they are just guidelines and you should feed them what you think they need so don't rely on those.

My LO sometimes has 6, sometimes 7. Just feed her what you think. If you feel 4oz is too much, cut her down to 3oz and see how you go.

I would do it according to weight, because the weight and size of the baby changes how much it can ingest. E.g. if your baby was early and weighed 5lb at birth, and another baby was overdue and weighed 10lbs at birth, they're not going to be able to take in, or need the same amount of formula; the smaller baby will need less. I would give your LO 3oz if she's happy with that

I don't pay any attention to the guides on the box - my daughter is the guide.

So, if you make up 4oz and your baby takes 4oz then that is what they want.
If they only take 3oz then that is fine too.
You cannot overfeed a baby as if they take too much they will bring a bit back.

i always used the weight guide with ds1 and he normally wanted a bit more so he got it lol but i based it on the weight whenever we changed milks

i dont pay any attention to the guidlines on the tub, in fact ive never even read them. i just feed olivia what she wants xx

I've never looked at the guidelines, I've always just given her what she needs x

Ignore what it says on the tin!! Go with what baby seems to need. I always make 1oz more than he usually drinks, just in case he wants more for a particular feed.

its just a guideline hun you dont need to follow it, mine says lily should be on 5-6oz, but she has 8oz every 4 hours, if your babies hungry then feed her i say, if shes abit sicky maybe it could be the milk could be too heavy for her, or maybe shes just a sicky baby, theres always cow and gate comfort u could try (if your not already using that)
Lilys a very sicky baby and i know that its not cos i give her too much, she will just grow out of it xx
