Hello ladies :flower:

I was trying to premake some bottles this morning (because I'm naughty!) and found that the evaporating water was leaving condensation on the spoon so when I put it back into the tub for more powder it stuck to it! My spoon was like a big ball of formla powder by time I got to the next bottle lol!

So how can I combat this?

I tried adding powder before the water but then the amount of water was about 20mls one time and 30 the next off the mark  thanks!xx

Hi Fiore

I find this when I premake LO bottles before we go out as i boil the water put in formula and put in his insulator bag.

What I do when at home is boil a kettle a water, I have bought a jug with a sealed lid, I put water in there to cool and use it for the rest of the day
LO has 8oz's so I put 6oz of the cold in, boil the kettle and add 2oz boiling water then the formula so its just right temp and made with 2mins (LO is impatient like me haha)
Or you could just use the water from the jug to pour into bottle add formula and heat when needed.

I wouldnt suggest adding formula first as this puts measurements off as you will notice the milk goes higher in oz's once formula added
Just a suggestion, thats the way I make them

x

or you could just tap the back of the spoon with a knife?

I always put powder in first and then in another bottle pour in the 4/5/6oz etc and then transfer to the bottle with the powder...
Failing that, I just know how much I need to fill the bottle by to get a true measurement - 8 scoops + 8oz of water = never an 8oz full bottle!
Cow and gate was terrible for this with that daft scoop, sma was a little better.

I have the tommy tippie formula container's that you use to carry the powder around instead of making the bottles up...and the only thing they have ever been used for is to put the scoops of milk in, then tipping it out of that into the bottles IYKWIM.

When we weren't far off giving up formula, I had a realisation that if the scoop is clean enough to go in the powder, and the powder be sterilised by the hot water, then the scoop could go in too. So I just stirred the bottle with the scoop, gave it a good shake, and went on to the next bottle. I couldn't believe I'd spent a whole year faffing around when the solution was so obvious :dohh:

Before that I rinsed it with water from the kettle.

i bang it on the side of the tub after every scoop :D x

I have a collection of scoops so I switch between them if they get really clogged up.

i measure however many scoops into a little container then just tip it all in at once. you never forget how many scoops youve put in this way either:thumbup:

Thanks ladies :)

I've done a little bit of experimenting and I've found putting the formula into the bottles first the measuring the water with a seperate sterile bottle and pouring that in to be the most convenient and effective way :flower: xx

Let the kettle cool for 15mins before pouring the water in the bottles and you shouldn't need to xx

 this is what I do too!

Or quickly rinse the spoon off and dry with a clean piece of kitchen roll (sometimes tapping with a knife won't dislodge the powder that's gotten stuck right into the bottom of the spoon - it can be like glue!).
