I have just done a pregnancy test and its positive! been waiting for period to show up so I can count down to IVF starting and my Mum today wondered if i could be pregnant so it got me thinking so tested just in case. I should be ecstatic but I am not, I am worried sick its an ectopic. I was diagnosed with severe tubal damage from past chlamydial infection in January. How would the embryo make it to the uterus? it seems to me far more likely it is stuck somewhere. i feel fine but (TMI - sorry) I am constipated and having twinges in that area but put that down to trapped wind. I have IBS so normal for me especially when stressed. Have you had an ectopic or do you know anyone else who has had ectopic? What should I do????

Have you heard of anyone having a normal pregnancy with severe tubal damage? I don't even want to hope as its going to be gutting to have an ectopic and will delay my IVF which i so desperately want! It could be a normal pregnancy but I don't feel confident it is.

If anyone has any advice would be great!!

i don;t think because your tubes were damage it will be automatically etiopic sweetie (but i am not a doctor ...)
can you go see a doctor soon and explain your situation ?

i agree with meil hun go see your doc, i really hope you get good news xxxx

Do you have any symptoms of an ectopic? When I had my mc they thought it may have been ectopic because of the pain but then one nurse said I was to well to be having an ectopic.

Just found this for you

Do you have any symptoms?

Another thing, how far along would you be, I've heard that an ectopic produces lower amounts of HCG than a normal pregnancy, would it be worth doing a digi to see if it corresponds with how far along you should be? Other than that I'd say call the gynae ward at your hospital, not sure if everywhere is the same but ours has a unit where they would scan you first thing in the morning to check how things are.

Got everything crossed for you, hope you get some good news! x

Thanks for replying everyone - I am only 3 days from period due date so still very early days. They won't be able to scan for a couple of weeks at least. I don't think symptoms would necessarily present yet. I will just have to phone the fertility clinic in the morning and see what they advise. I am not holding much hope though, I know the egg managed to travel down the tube and meet the sperm but the two combined would have a hard job making it back. You never know miracles do happen!

when i went for a scan a few weeks ago for my m/c hun they did an internal to rule out eptopic pregnancy they said they could tell me if it was an eptopic there and then, so fingers crossed they can put ur mind to rest i hope you have the happy news hun good luck to you! xxxx

Brambletess! So far a:bfp: is fantastic news. So, don't assume anything is wrong just yet. Certainly stranger things have happened.

My fingers are crossed for you. I'll be dying to know what your FS says in the morning - so be sure to post. In the meantime, all of my good baby vibes are going your way.

fingers crossed for you!!! like some have said these sort of litle miracles do happen!! take care of yourself and hope its good news xxx

Once again thanks for all your replies and support. I really appreciate it! I have been to my doctor today and been referred back to the hospital for early risk pregnancy assessment. Its the same nurse who I saw all through my fertility investigatons and she is lovely. I have an apppointment for Tuesday 18th May, when they will do an ultrasound to try and detect if there is anything in the uterus. If its there great, if its not there is further waiting etc..

Both my GP and the nurse where really good. They understand my concerns as they are real cocerns and i will be monitored closely but they have both said that there is every chance its a normal pregnancy BUT the risk of ectopic is very high too. We won't know until the 18th at the earliest though. Both reckon they have known lots of women with chlamydial tubal infertility to sucessfully concieve. I am now more hopeful. I certainly am not going to go out and buy the pram!! but feel less doom and gloom, not like my life has just ended. If it is ectopic then I will pick myself up and focus on the IVF again, if this embryo has implanated there is a good chance an IVF embryo will too. I am trying to see it as three shots I have now instead of two.

Hi BrambleTess,

I had an Ectopic 9 years ago before the birth of our Daughter. When I fell pregnant with her I had a scan at 4 weeks 4 days and saw the little bean!! With the ectopic, I just knew things were wrong, and had a feeling of dread the whole time. Keep in tune with your body, watch out for prune juice blood and shoulder pain. Don't be worried about nagging your doc either. I found the Ectopic Pregnancy Trust really helpful too, just to reassure you.
Sending you loads of luck for a :baby:

Sounds quite good! Got everything crossed for you! x x

Just to let you know girls I am now experiencing light bleeding. I don't know how this will pan out but its not looking good. Why did this have to happen just when i was about to start IVF treatment. It feels like a kick in the teeth.

hi brambletess

I experienced bleeding at about the same stage and it turned out to be an implantation bleed so fingers crossed that's what it is.

Thinking of you and hope it works out well

Hi Brambletess. I'm sorry to hear you are going through such uncertainty. It must be tough feeling so unsure.
I really hope everything will be fine and you are at the beginning of a happy and healthy 9 months :hugs:

Try not to worry. I too had a light bleed around 5 weeks with my dd, and it turned out to be implanting.
