I usually take the Walgreens brand gum drop fiber supplements on a regular basis - the main ingredient is chicory root. My first Dr appointment is in 3 weeks but I have talked to the nurse on the phone. I had asked her about fiber supplements and she said they were fine. But we didn't go into details.

I just read on the live strong website that chicory root has been known to cause miscarriages. Now I'm freaking out. Maybe she thought I was talking about the metamucil type fiber? Or maybe that website is wrong?

Chicory is in lots of stuff, including some fiber one cereals. I have never seen a product warning on any foods with chicory. Do any of you have any experience with chicory, also know as inulin, either good or bad?

I have been doing my best to stay calm. Regardless of it being a good or bad thing, i cant change anything now. But I'm 39 and this is my first, so I was already concerned about MC issues.

I'm not an expert, but have read a lot about chicory, as (like you said) it's in so much stuff. The consensus seems to be that in moderation it's safe. Taking an occasional fiber supplement or eating some FO cereal isn't enough to cause problems. Taken in high doses (i.e. as laxative abuse), it can cause uterine contractions. I have eaten a FO bar since being pregnant, but quite frankly I cannot handle the extra gas associated with them these days. ;) I would call your doc's office and ask them what they think, but personally I would avoid chicory on a daily basis.
