free 15 hr childcare pw rules......

At my LO's nursery they can do term time only places. Same at the 2 other private nurseries he's attended. They're also happy to take them for just the 15 hours.

amelies nursery closes 4 days a year :D

The pre-school El's is down for next september is term time and it's a choice of 5 x 3 hours am OR 5 x 3 hour pm sessions.

We use a CM so we don't need to worry about additional care and they will pick him up from pre-school and eventually school for us.

i dont see the point in sending them to a private nursery if you dont require childcare? Plus I doubt any nursery would let you register for only 15hrs of 'free' preschool time. Our nursery just gives lump sums each term time so you get the hours free that way but your monthly bill is just the same.

It's not for "childcare" - it's early education.

Early education entitlement can be taken in a variety of settings - and one of those settings are private nurseries. Some nurseries are registered to provide early education entitlement, and some are not. Those that do register to provide do so with the local council, and so are funded for this. So a nursery that provides early years education WILL let you register for only 15 hours of free pre-school time.

The fact that it is provided in a private nursery is irrelevant. They all follow the same education programme as a nursery attached to a school.

Yes, that's kind of what I thought, my friends 3 yr old is at a private nursery but they have a separate pre school room anyway...

I think this person isn't sayin the child shouldn't go anywhere if they dont need to for childcare, they are simply stating that it is most likely the case that somebody who sends their child to a nursery will most likely be doing it for the purpose of childcre as thats where they already go, whereas a stay at home mum is more likely to send their child to a specific pre-school, as they are able to have their chld there for only term time 9-3, rather than a nursery as many nurseries have rules about how the hours are spent, with many not only allowing 15 hours to be used. My nursery it is a flat rate for a day, if you choose to pay for a day but then collect them at 3pm that is your choice, however the 15 hours free funding does not cover the cost for a day so you have to top up the cost of that day above that provided by the government.

This is why there is the option of a pre-school or a nursery. es the curriculum is the same in both, but those that send them to nursery probably do so for the fact they need their child somewhere until 5pm, whereas a SAHM has no worry with collecting at 3pm, so it seems a lower chance that a SAHM would pay the extra a nursery would charge for the same hours.

I have explained that very poorly, but hopefully you'll understand what I'm trying t say

Tegan is going to a preschool instead of a nursery (a "nursery" that is attached to a school"). This is the alternative - they are open 38 weeks a year and have the same holiday times as a school does.
