Eeeek. So I've gone from driving a 207 sport manual to a VW pass at 2ltr automatic. Ohs idealol. It is very lovely but hasn't half got some go. Crazy. Any tips on how to get used to it other than drive it lol. Got it all day today as requested so took oh to work .

I love my automatic :D Its the only type of car I have driven though so no advice but you will get used to it and they are so much nicer to drive! Just get in the habit of putting foot on break everytime you go to start and stop the car when you go out x

I've gone from a manual to automatic back to manual. can't stand automatic. then again I did have a smart car so it didn't have any kick in it. it just felt like I wasn't driving the car.

I went from a manual to an auto a few months back and i would never go back! My car is lush to drive and has got some welly to it when you put your foot down :D

It took a few days to get used to it though.. No tips really, just go out and enjoy it xx

ooh I love auto! I have a 3L BMW thats very fast, it'll just get some getting used too hun- make sure you get out in it lots x

Ta the more Ive been out in more since this morning and soon got to grips with it. Just don't have to out foot down as much as it just effortlessly flies pinning you back into.your seat! So much more luxurious too

I leant on a manual, and went straight for an auto as my mum is disabled and meant we could drive each others cars, the had an manual when I it married and switched back to a auto for a few cars now and contriplating going back to a manual just as they are more efficent.

Autos are great though.

We switched to an Auto VW Passat CC earlier this year. Absolutely love it.

You do get use to driving an Auto quite quickly. Do love the VW Auto gear box (DSG), very smooth & it's got some umph to it. (assuming it's the same engine as mine). If you need a bit of go (overtaking etc) don't forget about the 'kick down' button I.e floor it & you will feel a button under the accelerater which you push it down a bit further (or stick it in 'S' mode on the gear stick).

Most autos kick down if you floor it quickly. All three that I've driven do anyway

yep mine has button but never need it, Over taking is fine. Mine uses hardly any fuel too!

Yeah its dsg :) so smooth reverse seems quite sensitive tho do you find that? Its VW pass at dsg 2ltr

I had an automatic a few weeks ago whilst my car was in for repair.. My OH is good mates with the owner of the Mechanics and lent out his main car to us it was beautiful i didnt want to give it back lol I found it super easy to get used to straight away i really fell in love with it, it was a 3ltr engine Mercedes 4x4 automatic it has top of the range dvd and sound system i wanted to cry when i gave it back I cant see what advice to give though as i found it easy first time i drove it it felt odd not having the gears oh and the mercades drank petrol like no tomorrow it only done about 16mpg if that we was putging £30 a day in petrol just to get OH to work and back but i did love it i wouldnt buy one unless it was diesel though and smaller engine but i would definitely buy a automatic it was beautiul to drive.

I love my auto! Nissan Qashqai :)

I drove manual for 14 years and switched to auto 3 years ago and would never go back!

Most autos will pin you back if you put your foot down :)

Yeah reverse is very sensitive. Do you have the auto handbrake too? I.e at a junction, you put your foot on the brake & stop, the car automatically puts the handbrake on so you can take your foot off the brake. It automatically comes off when you put your foot on the accelerator. If you do, you need to be careful (or at least be aware, if you are reversing very slowly sometimes the car puts the handbrake on. It's suppose to be safety feature for stopping roll back on a hill. Slightly annoying & confusing when it first did it. I was reversing off the drive.

I find swapping back to a manual confusing now. We have a little Suzuki Ignis Sport which we use for work. I've forgot about the clutch, the fact it doesn't have auto handbrake, it does haven't auto headlights/wipers (forgot how you put wipers on when I was driving it in the rain!), the indicators/wipers are on opposites side. So if you ever see a red Ignis Sport sat at traffic lights stalled with wipers going when it's not raining....that will be me! I'll be turning left or right!

Yeah I forgot to say it wasn't just a VW thing! This is our 3rd Auto over the years with a couple of manuals in between. We've had a Mitsubishi Projero, Mercedes C180 (I think) & the VW.

Not all autos use alot of fuel :)

I wouldnt have a diesel as I hate the chug! My old fiesta (ok, it was only a 1.2) used to do MILES on a full tank. 37 full tank used to last me almost a month.

I have a 1.4 now and I still only put in about 15- 20 a week and I use it every day x

Lol my auto is very very greedy but we do live in the middle of a big town so only ever make short trips, hence it uses more fuel.

yeh I find that too, numerous shop and school runs (all under 2miles) kill the petrol whereas some-days I can go further afield and not use hardly any!
