Hi all, I need a bit of advice about a FSH blood test I've just paid privately for.

We went to see Dr Dooley at Poundbury Fertility Centre and he advised I need a FSH egg reserve blood test for £80. I have no problem having this, it's something I had considered having done privately anyway.

My issue is that he didn't check what cycle day I was on and just asked if I wanted it carried out there and then. Being naive (and having to travel almost an hour to see him) I jumped at the chance. I've now read that the FSH egg reserve should ideally be done at CD3?

Is it okay to have the blood test done so late it my cycle? I'm just worried that I may have paid £80 for a test that will give inaccurate results :(

Unfortunately in my experience I was told the FSH test should be done on CD1 to CD3. Ideally you want a low FSH; if it's high then your body is releasing a lot of FSH because it needs to work harder to get it to ovulate. Is it possible your Dr was doing an AMH test rather than FSH? Just because AMH can be done on any day of of your cycle - hopefully it was that so you didn't waste your £80 :(

I really hope I misheard and it's an amh test then. I've checked my receipt and invoice and it just states blood tests.

An amh test is an egg reserve test and as the pp said can be done any time during the cycle. As it cost £80 (mine cost £100) I would expect it was an amh test you had done. Do you have the results yet as that should confirm it?

I've been told the numbers were 'normal' but I will get a full written report soon :)
