Hello ladies!

Just got to thinking that it's time to get a move on making baby clothes and diapers for #1 due in March.

I know that all babies are different shapes and sizes, but is there a good approximation of how big I should make the diapers/onesies to be? If a diaper is a little too big will I have to resize it?

Thanks

onesies sleepsuits? my daughter was in 0-3 in some shops and newborn hardly fit her. id say get a couple of tge smallest sizes and more 0-3. id not go mad on first sizes. i ended up wasting some sleepsuits from next.

nappies i only know dispisable. size one goes up to 11lb. i got through about six nappies a day and still do 7 months later. x

I would say look at the weights on the diapers if they are disposable. Most diapers have big size differences eg first size in UK is like 6lbs-11lbs or something. And then size 2 is like 7-15lbs or around that so some over lap

I would say get size 1s and also get new born onesies but look at the weights again. Some go up to 7.5 lbs some go up to 10 get the sizes that go up to 10lbs
My son was 7lbs 1 born in first size up to 7.5 lbs for 3-4 weeks then new born until 7/8 weeks and now in 0-3. My daughter was 6.12 born and in new born for at least 8 weeks then in 0-3. There are a big difference in new born and 0-3. However my friend has just had a baby weighing 8.4 at birth was in first size for a few days, new born for 2 weeks and then in 0-3. He was a fast gainer! X

Trying to use cloth diapers but maybe I will make all sorts of different sizes and see what works when baby comes out.

How long were your babies when they were born?

my daughter was 21 inches at birth. she had long legs so newborn sleepsuits were no good. she had newborn leggings and tops. they lasted a few weeks x

In not sure as they weren't measured but I was always told they were very long. I'm assuming around 19 inches. X

You are making diapers and clothing? Wow! That is impressive!

Anyways, my dd was born @ 41+2 and was 7lb 13oz & 21 inches long. She fit in newborn for quite awhile.

Ds was born @ 36+2 and was 5lb 15oz and 18 inches. The newborn were too big for him at first, but he quickly grew into (and out of!) them.

As much as I can yes. Why spend the money when I've got buckets of torn up shirts and fabrics that are no good to donate anyhow.

I will look up newborn sizes or maybe purchase a few items for reference. Shouldn't go too crazy though because babies grow fast!

I would go into a store with a tape measure.

Are you sewing flat nappies or some other kind? I had some 50x50cm flats for Sophie.

Our twins were born at 35 + 2, and they were each 4lbs. They fit into 0-3m sizes once they reached 6lbs. I'm impressed that you're making them from scratch. Way to go, mama!

My girl was 21.5 inches long and 8 lb 15 oz, so pretty big! But she fitted into newborn for a good four weeks. She was pretty squished up to begin with as I'm not very big at all and was absolutely enormous with her by my due date - she must have been VERY cramped in there. A lot of her weight was carried around her head and in her length I think - she's never been a very chubby baby.

It's hard to say what to do as babies are all different shapes and sizes, but I would say it's best for clothes to be too big rather than too small!

You definitely don't want diapers that are too big though, unless you want everything to get covered in poop! :haha:

My daughter was 7lbs 11oz at birth and size 1 nappies were huge on her, we had to buy her the micro preemie ones which apparently are from 2-5lbs but fit her perfectly. She wore those for about a week and then went on to size 1 and stayed on them for about 4/5 weeks and now is on size 2 which look like they will fit for at least another month if not longer.

Clothes wise we have only just packed away her newborn/up to 1 month stuff and some 0-3 months is still a little on the larger size but it depends on which store it has come from. For example I find mothercare and next quite roomy compared to other brands like TU from sainsburys.

My son, however, was 8lbs 9oz at birth and went straight into size 1 nappies and onto size 2 nappies at about 2 weeks old. Newborn clothes never fitted him and 0-3 was a perfect fit for him.

Totally depends on the child

My LG was 8lb11oz and could fit into newborn clothes for one week before they were all too small.

I would go for mainly 0-3 sized clothes, I have seen lots of fitted nappy pattern free online that have adjustable Velcro closures or pop studs in several locations that allow to to tighten the waist or increase the leg size.
