hi ladies just after some stories, i went for my midwife appt at 27 1/2 weeks and my fundal measurment is 30 weeks. Its freaking me out a bit as im being sent for a growth scan, my dd was born at 39 + 1 and was only 6lb 9oz
has anyone else had to be sent for scan following measuring big? what was the outcome?

They never sent me for scans but with my first from 20-30 odd weeks I measured 1 week ahead then went 33w-35cm, 35-39cm, 36w-42cm, 39w-39cm and he was 8lb 3oz and I was about the same with my second, at 28 weeks I was 33cm, she was a dotty 7lb 1oz. I wouldn't worry too much. :)

My fundal height was 6 weeks ahead at 17 weeks with Emma, and 8 weeks ahead from 20 weeks. Nothing at all abnormal with her size and my fluid levels were a little low towards the end, not high or anything. She was 7lbs 8oz and average length.

Are you in the uk? The uterus is barely palpable at 17 weeks I’m shocked you had a fundal height measurement so early. They should start at 26-28 weeks x

Is your midwife using a customised growth chart to plot your fundal heights at all? X

Midwives in my area dosent measure fundal measurments till 26+ weeks i always measured 3 weeks ahead but baby always measured small to scans every midwive measures differantly so may be slightly out on there part xx

I measured right for twins in my last pregnancy. He was a big baby but not as large as my second who I didn't measure as far ahead for.

yes its a customised chart but i didnt understand it as even if id have measured 27 cm that wouls have put me at the 95 centile on my chart, is that as i always measured behind with dd?

thanks ladies im hoping scan shows all normal growth just wish i didnt have to wait so long

At 39 weeks I measured 40 and he was 8lbs 4 at 39+3

I didht measure big but I had quite a few growth scans

Weird tho as my first 2 were 7lbs 14 and 7lbs 12.5 at 1 week late

I'm in New Zealand, but similar public health system. The midwife will palpate here from 20 weeks normally, but I could feel the fundus above my bellybutton and we could see the baby moving from the outside (even the midwife was shocked) so I was freaking out that something was amiss. Honestly it was like being 30 weeks pregnant. My other two were a different experience. She was checking for the heartrate on the doppler and said my uturus was ridiculously huge for 17 weeks.

Everything was fine and still have no idea why my fundal height was always so massive. I did end up with a tear in my uterus at the end though.

I mean I have seen women with sizeable bumps in the early part of the second trimester but with first times mums it is particularly difficult to palpate a fundus at 17 weeks and taking fundal height measurement is of no clinical significance until after 28 weeks as where I work a growth scan will not be carried out until after this gestation x it’s always super interesting to hear how different things are done in different areas/countries x

I’m going today for mw and I’m hoping to measure on track. My gestational diabetes numbers have been a bit high but the diabetes team said they aren’t concerned unless my Midwife measures me and I’m big... feeling big though if I’m honest :/
