Well, had my 32 week appointment yesterday and my fundal height done I measured 33cm which was way about normal / large growth for my size. MW thinks he is just constantly pushing out, which makes sense as the pressure and constant movement is very uncomfortable.

I just felt so upset and worried. Everyone at the minute says I look huge which completely and utterly make me so upset but feel stupid everytime someone says that I look big I cry

I just feel really fed up and miserable and uncomfortable

Try not to worry yourself too much, as long as you and baby are healthy thats the main thing.

People always say i look big too, but what do they expect, we are pregnant!! :hugs:

Aww, Hugs.

Is that the same as the tape measurement thing - where they measure your bump from top to bottom?

I am 28 weeks and measuring 32cm! - I had to be sent to the day unit at hospital for a check up due to this - during which one of the midwives very loudly discussed me on the phone in a packed ward - the convo went something like this...

MW: yep she is measuring large- but she's a big girl herself and her husband is really tall so maybe that's it...

MW: Hmmm well, it could be or it could just be because she's on the big side herself...

Needless to say I was mortified. But I have got so used to it (get comments about being "too big" from MIL all the time) so I am not bursting into tears anymore.

Mine is measuring large. I went for a scan last week and was called in to see the doctor who told me that my amniotic fulid is off the chart and this is why i'm measuring large. I've got to back for another scan next tuesday to see if the fluid has gone down.

if your 32 weeks, then 33cm is perfectly normal. at 32 weeks, you can be anything from 29cm - 35cm before they send you for a scan to check everythings ok.

xx

I measured 32 at 29 weeks. When I got my recent scan, I asked how big it was and it was right on time.

I was always measuring a couple of cm ahead. Last week I was measuring a cm behind though. I wouldn't worry about it. Fundal height isn't everything, and just one cm out isn't such a big deal :hugs:

thanks everyone.

Just looking at my growth chart and was perfect last time at 29 weeks i measured 28cm which was on normal growth line. If I stay on normal Growth line he is still showing quite large at birth 8lb and large growth line he will be 9lb 9oz

Its really worried me but no one else is concerned :-)

At my last appt I was 34wks and measuring perfectly (which I'm told is 34cm?) anyway I get told everyday all day how HUGE I am and constantly asked how many are in there. I asked my DR if I was too big, he said no, I said why do people keep telling me how HUGE I am, he said it's because they have no idea what they're talking about!! So remember that, people generally seem to be idiots with pregnant women!! I just say now, 'oh you must've forgotten how big women get when they're pregnant' and just walk away, I'm sooooo OVER IT!!
:hugs:

oh you're perfectly fine :) I measured 32 at 28 wks and when I went to the ultrasound the baby was only measuring slighty big, it was more so due to a lot of fluid. I mean, a centimeter is SO small I'm surprised she even said anything? Usually it has to be more than 3 weeks off for the to do anything. And to be honest, I am grateful I was measuring big because I got another ultrasound which showed a few things that are of concern, and if I was measuring normal they would have never known!

And don't worry hun, we all look huge right now. Just think, we're almost done!

Blimey, how is 33cm at 32 weeks big? As a rough guide you should be around 1cm for every week of pg, with a leaway of 2ish cm each side of that. You're not measuring huge at all! On the chart in my notes you're well within the shaded area.

I'm measuring small (26cm at 29+2) but it's a very rough science anyway! Don't worry!

Thanks

MW didn't worry and joked i was having a 14lb baby lol!! But I am just so fed up with the LARGE comments !! :-(

Its making me worried about giving birth and if it will be difficult because he is bigger

My friend kept getting told she was measuring big (3 1/2 weeks ahead) but he was a normal size when he was born... Fundal height is so subjective and so affected by if you've eaten, if your bladder's full, how the baby is laying, if you have a bit more amniotic fluid etc... Please don't worry about it, most people who are told their baby is measuring large have normal sized babies with no problems.

Aww I wouldn't worry about it, that sounds pretty normal to me and not large at all.

He went up all the way past my rib cut off area and just under my boobs last visit! I was like "kinda high" and response "your big"

going to ask how many cm next time! sure it is at 40

Hi hun,

You've NO need to worry at all - this tape measuring business just gets us all anxious! Basically if you measure 3cm more or 3cm less than the weeks pg you are it is classed as in range. Only when it falls out of the range do they have a little extra look at things. I measured 27.5cm at 32 weeks and it was because the baby was lying across my tummy. The only time the measurement can be exact to the no. of weeks you are is if your baby is lying perfectly straight in your womb, and let's face it they can be awkward little monkeys!

omggggggg just read this and checked my notes - I had midwife appointment last week at 28weeks and my measurement came in as 34cm!! But strangely she didn't say a thing about it (she was a substitute midwife as mine is on holidays)

Now I'm starting to think my baby going to be HUGE - my eyes are watering here lol. Mind you I am on the big side myself so maybe Junior's going to be big - hope not!! :o

Seriously though I think a lot must depend on baby's position as others said here and on what you've eaten, fluid etc. so don't worry about it hun xxx

If its just one week ahead thats not that bad. No need to worry my dear. Fundal height is something so open to interpretation. One week I'll be measuring 4 wks ahead and the next I'm right on schedule, thinks it depends on who is measuring.

Just like everyone else said I wouldn't worry about it. I measure big every appointment. I was 37 weeks at my last one measuring 39. I know from my first son that it means nothing as he wasn't overly large. he was a week late and 8lbs :)
