Hey Ladies,

I was at the midwife on Tuesday where I was 31 weeks. My fundal height measured 31 cm, which means the baby is aprox 2000g, which I think is 4lbs, I'm a bit worried that this little lady going to be really big, or is she normal weight for her gestation?? xx

gonna say i was 36cm today at 37wks and i think it was just under. EFW at 32wks was 4llb7oz (or somethin similar, not got notes to hand!) and they said my baby was gonna be average! x

sounds average hun, how do you find out the weight from the measurements? x

humph! my midwife said she cant tell how big my baby is from doing my fundal measurement :( i jolly wish someone could tell me. i dont really understand what fundal measurements are for if they dont tell you how well baby is growing... how important is the size of your uterus really?

The height v weight thing is on the chart your midwife marks the fundal height thing on. If you look to the left hand side of the chart it shows you the weight in grams. Which in my case 31cm = 2000g, about 4lb.

Does anyone know how much weight the baby gains within the last 8 weeks? x

i messured 28cm today and im 31+4, so went for a scan and baby is messuring 31 weeks after all, and his estimated weight is 3 12oz ish.

i wouldnt really worry about babies weight aslong as baby is healthy as no matter what they weigh birth is exactly the same x

My fundal height has measured right on through my whole pregnancy, and my baby has measured big on scans. There are also women who measure on and the baby measures a few days behind. It's really not an indication of baby's size unless your baby is far behind or far ahead. It is also useful for measuring that you still have the correct amount of water, so you're fine.

Number of cm should equal the number of weeks.

My books tell me they gain 1/2 pound a week.

this is true. i was told that they have a 3cm rule where i am. if you are withing 3cm of the number of weeks under or over what you are pregnant then this is fine. eg. if you are 30 weeks pregnant you can measure 27-33cm and this is considered normal x

i havent got a chart that shows weight, i just filled the fundal height in myself cos midwife not done it, im 34+5 and measure 36 so what weight would that be? xx

The only thing I use fundal height for is to know that she's growing from appointment to appointment. I doubt it's actually predicting how much she weighs as it depends on all sorts of things like fluid and such.

Anyway, 31 cm at 31 weeks is perfect, nothing to worry about!

My midwife says it's just to check for growth and as long as it is changing and doesn't become static then it's fine and they weight at the side is not a very good indication as some people have measured "small" and had big babies and others have measured "big" and had small babies but there was a lot of fluid and placenta!

x

My midwife measured me at 25 weeks and I measured 28+ weeks. I knew that measuring FH isn't the best way to determine the baby's size so wasn't really concerned, she still made me an appointment to see the consultant the next morning. He scanned me and my midwife was right, baby was measuring between 28-29 weeks and approx weight was 2lb 6oz.

As someone else said I FH measuring is only accurate if you are quite far ahead or behind. I have another growth scan tomorrow so we will see if she is any bigger or if she has evened out

I measured Monday @ 31+3 as 27cms. I was given a scan and baby weighed 3lbs 13ozs so all was okay afterall. I think it's about normal for that stage :)

dont listen to the fundal height measurements they mean nothing... totally primitive technique of establishing weight!

My baby is in the 75th centile for weight as per my growth scan but yesterday I was measuring 1-2 cm behind on fundal measurement so I guess we are all different! That sounds perfect to me. My little one was 4lbs 6 at 31 weeks and on the bigger side of normal. Yours sounds right where it should be :)
