hi, my 9 week old has been given gaviscon for reflux and has reduced her feeds from 5oz to 3oz! :nope: she only started yesterday and was wondering if anyone has any experience? she only has 4 bottles a day so am a tad concerned! xxx

I dont have any experience with Gaviscon I'm afraid but doesnt it thicken the formula? Maybe it's made the milk feel a bit more filling for your LO? Hopefully she'll get used to the thickness and get back to her previous eating habit :)

Omar is on Anti reflux formula & it's thick. When he was 2 mnths old he couldnt take more than 3 oz 4-5 bottles per day. Now he's almost 4 mnths & only take 5 oz per bottle & takes 4-5 bottles a day. Dont worry about the quantities, the good thing is that she can keep what she's taking in her stomach. u can gradually increase the no. of feeds.

thanx, i have moved to the next size teat and that has helped loads but now she has more wind! she is on dr browns cos of colic! is it normal for her to be cryng loads after starting gaviscon????? do you think she will calm down when she gets used to the thicker feeds??? thanx xxxx

I dont think she's suppossed to cry a lot more on Gavison  My LO has stopped crying so much on Gavison. Maybe it isnt working for your LO? Im not sure but I would maybe make another appointment with your Doctor. Also try Infacol. My LO gets a dose of infacol then takes 6-7oz of Cow and Gate formula with size 2 teats and gavison in it. Either that or could she maybe be constipated. Gavison I've found makes LO's poo's a lot firmer. It did take a few days for LO to get used to the gavison and i think he did go down to 4oz from 5oz for a lot of his feeds. :hugs: Hope you get sorted soon. Its horrible when something they're suppossed to enjoy causes pain for them.

hiya, we have an appt for monday to see if its helping, she isnt constipated and is now takin feeds properly with a size 2 teat, also on cow and gate! less sicky but a tad more windy, wonder if thats the prob??? she is so clingy i cant put her down! she is laid across my lap asleep right now bless her! lol. as for infacol, we tried it when colic was bad and she spat most of it out and then screamed for an hour or so! (was worse than before), also tried gripe water with the same effect! hopefully she will settle down soon and be comfortable xxx

I tried gaviscon for a while, and it made her go down to 2oz/3oz, and in 2 weeks only put on 7oz. So i stopped giving her it and she ahs been fine since, the HV told me sometimes babies can get a bit of reflux for a short period of time and it just goes away, i dont wanna suggest stopping the gaviscon as sounds like your little one needs it,but i would def go and see the doctor!

I wouldn't change the teat size, gaviscon isn't supposed to thicken the formula, it forms a layer on top of the gaviscon in the tummy, making it harder for the milk to come back up, that's how it works. Lucy went on gav and because it made her constipated badly she reduced her feeds, so we had to take her off it!!

hi the doc told me it would thicken it p! the medium flow teats we went onto were too fast for her and the slow ones too slow! :dohh: she also started to get looser more smelly poos that were brght yellow and she was struggling wth the flow so i took her off it yesterday, saw doc today and she doesnt really know what to do! she sad the gaviscon obviously doesnt agree with her and to maybe try sma staydown but when she had normal sma it made her constipated and im worried it wll happen again! any advice???? xxxx

The gaviscon isn't reducing the feeds hun its your baby not wanting as much, Jax did the exact same thing. Its part of the reflux, stop using the gaviscon & try sma staydown :) Xx
