I was diagnosed with GD about 16 weeks, no surprise as it was the same in my first pregnancy.

Now Ive pretty much been able to eat what Ive wanted, avoiding a few things that I know send my level too high.

But my first morning level has started to go a little too high. Its only been since the weekend and its hit 5.7 as the highest, it used to be about 5.0-5.2. My other sugar levels are fine and I know I can put it down to interupted sleeping now (tossing and turning, up for the toilet several times).

After a google Ive been having a small protein snack before bed and its helped a small bit.

Does anyone have any other tips that might help?

I think Im going to have to call my midwife today. I really dont want to be put on insulin considering my other levels are just fine.

I think that your blood sugar levels increase as the pregnancy goes on, so it may just be one of those things, and nothing you can control by your diet.

My fasting levels were all between 5 and 5.7 so I have been put on insulin - its actually fine, it doesn't hurt injecting (the finger pricking for the blood test hurts more). I too have a snack between breakfast and lunch and lunch and dinner, and sometimes a little something before bed too, and I find that helps in keeping my sugar levels down too, rather than just 3 meals a day.

Thankyou!

How were your other levels during the day?

Im going to call the midwife in a hour (have to wait for her open hour for calls). Im going to make sure we speak today as the hospital appointments are only for Wednesdays so hopefuly they can squeeze us in tomorow if needed.

Of course Ill take the insulin if needed, but Id hope they would be willing to try the tablets first with my other levels being fine.

The hospital are going to send me out an appointment letter so I should be seen soon.
