Hi .... had a consultant appointment this morning and depending on the outcome of the scan on the 27th (large baby due to GD) I will probably be induced at 38 weeks. However, what happens if you aren't engaged when they want to induce you?

if I'm not mistaken...if your baby is head down and they induce you, they'll probably break your water which would put the babys head right on your cervix and then give you sometime of med (pitocin or oxytocin) to induce stronger and more regular contractions to help change the cervix. I had gestational diabetes too and was going to be induced @ 37+6 due to it, low fluid, and mature placenta, but while waiting on a free bed to be induced I went into labor. lol

I should think the babys head would engage during labour. Its often this way for women on second pregnancies.

I was induced at 38+1 with my first due to GD and it went really well, hope its easy for you too :hugs:

There is apparently a score that a gynae can give you out of 30 that is supposed to tell you whether an induction could possibly work or not - apparently anything less than 6 out of 30 and they should not induce at all and the higher you get the more likely it is that the induction will work. Some of the things they check are engagement, cerviacl softening, dilation, baby's position and so on.

I was induced for diabetes (type 1) at 38 weeks and while the gynae would not give me my score after doing it, apparently the results were low and she was expecting a C-section - my waters broke 2-3 hours after the induction started and everything went fine - DD was born 12.5 hours after the induction started.
