Sorry to open another GD thread but I failed my glucose tolerance screen and now have to wait 3 week to get my glucose tolerance test :growlmad:

I feel like Im in limbo! my level was at 8. something after one hour of the screen drink but are there two different drinks because the lady thought that I was doing the test and not the screen. I corrected her after she opened the gross sugar drink.

I normally eat healthy but i really dont know what to eat now. I know sugar is bad and same with carbos but Im having a hard time putting everything together.

I figure I should act like I have GD until my next test just incase.

Well that sucks that they gave you the gross sugary drink.

What I suggest doing is before your 3 hour test, eat foods that have barely any sugar in them. If you want a snack before your fasting starts, try snacking on chips or crackers instead of cookies or cake. Drink plenty of water. Stay away from sodas, kool-aid, iced tea and whatnot. Also, don't snack on too much fruit before your test as the naturally occurring sugars could raise your blood sugar levels.

And another thing I found interesting from my doctor... stress increases your blood sugars. I'm not sure why or how it does that, but apparently it does. Take a nice long relaxing bath before your test and relax a bit.

Lol relaxing and needles dont go well together.

LOL. I hate needles. Absolutely hate them. I try to find a happy place as I have a needle inserted into me. I was lucky the last time. The girl was so good at what she did that I didn't even know it was over and done with!

OMG I think I need my vision checked again... I was re-reading a bit of my post and where it says "fasting starts" all I saw was "farting" LMAO. Hooray for dyslexia! lol

LOL. During the needle times my clinic has a window that I look out and count cars in the parking lot. I just cant believe I have to wait 3 weeks because all the labs in Calgary are full with appointments until then. Crappy Canadian health system. I'll be 32 weeks when the GTT is done. Funny thing is Im going for a growth scan tomorrow because Im measuring small. Wouldnt it be the opposite if I had GD?

GD is a funky thing.. i think my results were a fluke deal but id rather be safe than sorry :)

You have to remember that you still need to eat carbs.. they say that each meal to eat between 4-5 servings (15g of carbs = 1 serving) so really thats quite a bit.. if you are a big pop drinker then obviously try to switch to diet.. i cant justify the amount of carbs to make it worth it.. ya know?! and it might be different calculations where you are too.. if you are going to have something with lots of sugar try to balance it out with protein.. its just really eating healthier, even if you thought you were eating healthy before :) when i was in limbo (i had failed both tests and waiting to meet with the doctor) i lost 8 pounds in 3 weeks (mind you im bigger to start out with) it was just because i cut out pop, added more water, and ate healthier... you can do it :) remember WHY you are doing it too.. heheh BEST of luck!!

Yes please be careful with the carbs thing :) I got diagnosed at 34 weeks, and for a week i literally cut out pretty much everything carb like, then i went for a midwife appointment where they found ketones in my urine which can be dangerous.
Diabetes is a strange thing, some people react better to certain foods better than others, the main rule is cut out everything sugary, like chocolate, sugary biscuits etc, base your meals on wholegrains and proteins rather than things like white bread, try and eat wholegrain bread.
xx
