For all ladies with GD, can I ask what your fasting blood sugars are? My target levels are max 5.9 fasting and max 7.7 one hour post-meals. I am absolutely fine with the post-meal readings (all between 5.2 and 7.4) but my fasting ones are closer to the limit (5.3 to 5.9 this morning). Sometimes my fasting level is higher than the post-meal reading the previous night.

As these are all within my target (just) I am not overly worried but I've read that GD gets more difficult to control the later on in pregnancy you are so I am a little worried about those fasting readings?

Any insight or tips?

TripleB My fasting readings are alot higher too..

My readings should be below 5.5 when wake up and lower then 7.5 2 hours after meals (must be different here)

Most mornings I'm 5.5 or higher... There always going on at me about what i eat for dinner etc.. But my after dinner reading is always lower then my morning reading..

Apparently I don't make enough insulin when asleep.. I'm not worrying about it to much..

But here's a little tip.. Go for a walk before taking your morning readings.. Just a quick 20 min one.. Before you eat as well..
Its cheating..

Thanks Amy. I tried an evening snack last night as I read that can help lower morning readings. No difference - still 5.9 this morning, the max I'm allowed. I'll try the exercise cheat tomorrow and see how that goes instead. Can I ask if you are diet-controlled? I don't want these borderline morning readings to lead to insulin. xxx

I'd say you are doing really well. My reading have been crap and am on a lot of insulin now which is sending me into a hypo :-( so no real advise really just carry on as you are maybe watch your portion size and exercise will help too x

Thanks Oneday, sorry it's been tricky for you. It'll be worth it in the end :hugs: xxx

Sorry to be a bearer of bad tidings tripleb but I'm insulin and Metformin.. I have PCOS and went on metformin TTC and they have kept me on it.. 3x a day with insulin morning and night now.. Insulin only since 30weeks..

:hugs: Sorry :hugs:

Tell me how you went with the walking please? Id does help me..

It's ok hun, best to know the whole picture! Haven't yet managed the morning exercise (the UK winter is not helping!) Had a very active weekend though and morning readings have been a little lower. xxx

That's great TripleB :) Please stay on top of it :) Although it's really hard once bubs has dropped :)

Mine have been all over the place since baby dropped.. They keep upping my insulin :(

Only great news is having baby on Friday by planned c - and they want me in from 8 am - they told me generally it's 11 am but due to my levels going haywire they need to monitor me for 4 hours before the planned procedure ..

My levels have been anywhere from 1.5 - 9.8 from 1 and a half hours after meals..

Wow 1.5! Is that the insulin taking it so low? Was 0.2 over this morning - boo, it's definately the mornings I struggle with.

Good luck for Friday hun. Is the section because of the GD?

xxx

No - I have other medical problems as well..

I think it's insulin etc bringing it down but unsure...
