Gender Guess at 12 Week Ultrasound?

Hi Ladies,
I'm going for my 12 week ultrasound tomorrow (I'm in the USA) and was curious if anyone's ultrasound tech was willing to give a guess about gender. I'm not sure if it's inappropriate to ask them? I guess the worst they can say is no....

Any experience with this? Thank you!

12 weeks would be extremely early to guess IMO!

I wouldn't risk it, female genitalia can still be quite swollen at this point leading to easy confusion.

I had a scan at 12w6d and the technician said the baby was too small to detect at that point. I'm in Canada and I'm not sure if the technician is allowed to discuss the ultrasound findings. I have my apt with my doc next week and hopefully he will be able to tell me.

I've heard that most ultrasound techs won't guess that early. Mine ventured to guess at my 12 week appointment, but I didn't take it too seriously because it is way too early to know with 100% accuracy. If they do take a guess, I wouldn't buy anything gender specific yet until a later scan confirms the gender.

Thanks, ladies! The ultrasound went well and the tech gave me an 80% prediction that we'll be meeting our little girl in January. We'll have to wait until August to see if she was right!

Ooh that's interesting! I asked mine about nub theory at my 12 week scan and she said it was a very raised nub and she was pretty sure something masculine was forming when she got a shot of the genital region so pretty much said be prepared for a boy but I haven't taken it completely to heart, but as soon as the baby came on screen I thought boy, lol.
