I heard there was a forum for Gestational Diabetes on here, but I haven't been able to find it. I hope this is ok to post here:
My worry is I'm in the third trimester (31 weeks today) and am consuming about 1500-1800 calories per day. Pre-pregnancy I was 137 pounds, and I'm now 151 pounds. **I lost 4 pounds since the GD diagnosis 2 weeks ago, though.
I feel like I should be eating more calories...but it spikes my blood sugar if I do, even if it's health foods. I was told to keep my blood sugar under 130 one hour after meals, and I have found that if I eat much more than my current intake my levels go over. Again, even with healthy stuff.
All I really did after the diagnosis was cut out the added sugars, fried foods, white bread/rice/potatoes etc. but my numbers have still gone over a few times. Not by much, and I stopped eating the things that made it spike way over (pasta, cereal) so I think I have the sugar under control - but again, the calories seem too low.
I dunno. I have an appointment with my OB Friday and am going to ask.
I am not overweight, so I don't think weight loss is a good thing in my case. I feel fine eating less, but it's all very stressful. I don't want to deprive my baby of what he needs.
I'd like to think so long as I'm eating lots of healthy things that the calories being a little low is not a big deal, but I just don't know...
