does anyone sharing this with me. I haven't been diagnosed yet (they haven't tested me yet) but I had GD with my previous two children, insulin dependant with my daughter (at 19 weeks on insulin). I am kind of peeved that they haven't tested me yet, or at least put me on the diet...it can't hurt, and it may prevent me and baby from getting big (which I am). So, I was wondering if anyone would mind sharing their diet with me until I get tested??? Just the basics...as I cannot remember. My youngest is now 5 so that was a long time ago! LOL!

I have GD. im not following a specific diet, just checking the sugar levels in everything im eating... try not to eat more that 10g worth of sugar with each meal or snack. Be careful of fruit juice and fruit, sweets and chocolate.

Proteins tend to be very low sugar, so lots of cheese, ham, chicken, turkey etc etc...

switch all drinks to diet variety too...

hope this helps?
Lucy x

Thanks Lucy. So, you weren't put on a meal plan? The 10 g of sugar will help me. I will go on that for now. I remembered the protein...basically with anything you eat. I remember it being alot. LOL! Thanks for your help.

no... no diet plan for me... just the clicker thing to check my own blood sugar levels 3 times a day....

for a treat, i have been freezing no sugar cordials into lollies for a sweet fix too !

Sure hun i will tell you what i have & my dietician approved it.

For breakie i have cereal..mostly weetabix NO sugar on it
Or things like Shredded wheat are good
Toast is ok with low fat marg or any low fat kinda spread..

All i am allowed to drink is plain water or my kids diluting juice (with no added suagar)

Lunch i usually have a ham salad sarnie / roll / baguette etc
Or soup..

Diner i have things like baked potatos those are good for carbs make you
feel full up longer. I have it with low fat cheese / low fat coleslaw or
weight watchers beans.

I eat a lot of boiled rice / potatoes / veg for diner too

You can have meat as well like chicken with boiled potatoes & veg

I try & eat as much fresh fruit as i can as well

I dont have desserts at all

Snacks im allowed are digestive biscuits / rich tea biscuits / jacobs crackers/

Thanks hon! I see my OB next week, so if I combine your diet, with Lucy's sugar guidelines...then I should be good until I get my own personal one. I just wish I had done this earlier. I fear I am diabetic already, and I have gained alot of weight.

Just dont let them treat you like you have done summit wrong.
No offence but it's not only overweight & pregnant people who get
diabetes, my wee niece has it & shes a wee skinny 10yr old!
Besides that some people can make you feel rotten like you've brought
it on yourself, needless to say my consultant has been really good, if i had
felt at all they were niggling at me i would have put my feet down.

Good luck when you do get into the food plan it might be enough
to keep diabetes away! x

Watch the fruit as it has lots of natural sugar. Plenty of meat and veg is what i was told. I have found that mash potato sends my sugar levels very high and so does white bread. They told me bread with seeds in it or granary bread is the ones to eat.

Yes, I was told that about the fruit with my daughter...barely any. I can't remember which ones I was allowed to eat...I remember bananas and oranges were out. I will do the grain bread too. Thanks everyone for their advice. I see my OB next Thursday.

Good luck hun, you might be lucky and get away with it, be great if you do.....I gotta go back to my Dr Tuesday to see what they want me to do now......

I hope so, but doubt it. I am much older (35) and it has been five years since my last baby, and I am starting out heavier...one could hope though! LOL!

They do say your more prone to it if your bigger, im small ish and the dr was quite shocked when he seen me, although it looks like mine is family related. My cousin had it also and she is smaller than me. Hope all goes well at the drs.

I was quite smallish with my first two times. But, I gained alot during the pregnancy. I gained 90 with my first, and 60 with my second (pounds). It runs in my family too...there is no escaping it! My twin sister had GD in her pregnancies as well.

Ouch always the way....I never thought about it running in the family till I spoke to my gd dr about it, should have been the first thing I though tog lol, but never crossed my mind.......

I've had my LO now but i had GD in pregnancy. In my opinion and experience, be careful with weetabix and shredded wheat, both sent my levels rocketing, porridge was great though!.

Also potato, rice and pasta had to be eaten in real moderation as carbs are really bad for sugar levels!!.

My LO was 8lb8 born and i was induced at 38 weeks, it's worth watching what you eat.I'm not sure i could go through it all again. My LO eats for England now and I'm convinced it's connected!!

Hiya x

I wasnt diagnosed with it untill i was 30 wks so it came as a big shock when i was told...dont eat this, dont eat that lol
I kept a chart for a week for them to monitor me and had to do the blood test after every meal. We found that white bread/baguettes made my levels shoot up. Fruit was a no no as well.
I was told to stick to.........Fish..Chicken <without skin> Gammon peas..Jacket potatoes..Grilled chops..any veg..potatoes...salad..beans..oven chips...oh the list is endless lol
I still have the folder with all the guide lines in if your stuck...there are some nice recipes on it too.
I just used to eat alot of meat, fish, cheese and eggs to be on the safe side.

OMG for a second there i thought we lived worlds apart cos ive been given
different advice from you! I was told to eat weetabix & shredded wheat!

Also to fill up on carbs like potatoes & pasta cos it leaves you fill up for
longer so your less likely to snack!

Maybe it's different for other people but you'd think they'd give out the
same advice to everyone....am quite shocked. I've been following my plan like i added in here & my sugars has been kept down so i can only say its done ME good at least x

You are sooo right about that! I have been always slim and now that they've found GD they stressed me because they made such a big deal! You know that in my country back in Europe nobody gets tested for that just because it is so common for your body to have a little more sugar when pregnant. Restricting you from food just makes it worse, my doc told me I can have like 1 glass of milk a day are you crazy?? Milk is sooo important for baby! It pisses me off now that i have to follow their stupid sh#% but I will for 2 weeks and bring my paper records back and prove that I am just fine! Hey someone has to pay for those gluccose monitors and the nutritious class teacher that they send people to.
And you know what I think made them think I am prone to it...they weight me and they said you are 135 lbs , the morning on empty stomach i weight myself and i was actually 131lbs so my doc said "you are 135lbs you have gained 8lbs since last time's check up" riiiiiiiiight, she's just used to dealing with mostly big pregnant women no offence
