I am in the process of changing doctors at 24 weeks exhaust I am not confident that they are handling my care adequately. I'm quite certain I have gestational diabetes- but won't know until I get the official test next week at the new practice. Question- for those of you who he experienced this or know someone who has- do you often get induced early for this? I'm just curious. I'll be talking to the dr about it next week on my list of questions- but wondering about your experiences. :-)

It depends how big baby gets. If they feel he/she is getting too big they will probably take the baby early.

As for me I might be looking at a csection more because my baby is breached. :S

They will not take the baby before 39 weeks because if you have gestational diabetes those babies lungs tend to develop later. I was induced at 39 weeks only because the baby was measuring borderline large, I was retaining alot of fluid, my dr was afraid I was also going to develop pre-eclampsia and I was already 4cm dilated.

I was a diet controlled gestational diabetic. I was scheduled for my induction at 39 weeks but didn't end up needing to be induced due to spontaneously going into labor at 38 weeks one day.
Each doctor may differ slightly with how they treat gestational diabetics but the following is how my doctor does.
After a diagnosis of gd he monitors his patients much closer then a normal pregnancy (more visits ultrasounds excetera). Which I believe is the practice of most if not all obs.
For a diet controlled gestational diabetic that later in pregnancy does not have problems with spiking blood sugars he typically induces anywhere between 39 and 40 weeks but does not let them go over due do to possible complications.
With his patients that are having problems controlling their gestational diabetes he typically will induce them depending on the situation anywhere between 37 and 39 weeks gestation.
And of course just like any other of his patients if there are complications that warrent it he will deliver them earlier than those dates if necessary for the well-being of the mother and baby.
Hope this helped.
