Been told I am high risk for this because I have pcos just hoping some of you ladies who have it can tell me some signs/symptoms if any to look out for? thanks in advance x

The glucose test will let you know. I have no idea any more if I have GD or not, but did notice a strong sweet smell to my urine in the early weeks of the pregnancy that seemed unusual. I don't know if that was GD, or just being pregnant, though.

I was THIRSTY all the time and nothing quenched my thirst..no matter how much I drank! Of course due to elavated blood sugars and drinking so much I had to constantly pee and I didn't get my energy back in the 2nd trimester like everyone said I should. As mentioned though...your glucose tolerence test will let you know. :hugs:

thanks ladies, not having that test till 28th Feb not sure why so late but thats the date they have booked me in for x

Normally in the UK they test at around 26 weeks if you're at risk, I haven't worked it out but I'm guessing that'll be pretty close to your 26 weeks? They're looking at changing the protocols as other countries test much earlier, but at the moment it's 26 weeks. If you feel that you're having symptoms before then, push for an earlier GTT - I did as I had symptoms. I'm on metformin for PCOS at the minute anyway but this way they can monitor earlier as your blood sugars rise in the second half of pregnancy. X

extreme thirst for sure... other symptoms like lowered immune system, tiredness, dizziness, etc are also symptoms of pregnancy. I would get a glucometer if you want to keep an eye on it. Not sure where you live but where I am you get the glucometer free when you buy strips which cost about $80. google some info online about it and learn how to test yourself. It should be 6.7 mmol/l (or 120mg/dl) 2 hrs after you take the first bite of a meal. If you find it's higher you should talk to your OB about it. When you have diabetes you have to test many times daily but if you're just looking out for it once every day or two would be lots.

i had no symptoms at all besides feeling a little thirsty while eating. I would just relax and stay positive and wait for your GCT results, apparently too much stress causes your blood sugar to rise.

I have PCOS and my bubs was big around the tummy at my 28week scan (93rd centile), so I did the two hiur test which was fasting from 10pm, blood taken at 9.15am (4.01) then the manky drink and still no food until blood tskrn two hours after the drink (4.02). I was normal, so bubs is just chubby, but if you're going for the GTT take some sarnies or something (by the time I could eat and drink again I was famished). GD is usually controllable by diet (I looked into it before the test) and worst case they'll put you on injections, they also induce here at 38 weeks due to the risk of placenta going dodgy and babies who have GD mums tend to be a bit bigger. Best of luck with the test, just know having PCOS doesn't necessarily mean you'll fail the test.

My MFM is having me do readings 4X a day now to make sure my BS is under good control (have PCOS). I've lost 3 babies (one at 27 weeks) and she said metabolic syndrome is one of the biggest risk factors, even over my clotting disorder.
