I know that if OH & I were to elope to say, the Caribbean.. that the marriage would not be legal in Canada.. but I don't mind I'd just get the paperwork done and have a civil ceremony at home.. but can you get married in a foreign country and have it recognized by the church you are apart of?

OH & I are Catholic and want our marriage recognized by the church if we choose to elope, if anyone has details on how to do that, please respond

You need t check the country that you're going to, to see what their marriage requirements are. Most foreign marriage certificates will be recognised by another country, so you just need to check. Then you start the process applying for the license in your chosen country.

As for recognised by the church, you'd need to speak to someone from the church. I don't know if it would be unless you were married in a catholic church there.

What country are you thinking?

I don't know much about this, but my Mum got married in Antigua last year and it's 100% legal here :D

I know if you get married in Fiji you can have a catholic/other faith minister but you have to take a note from your Church or something. I guess it's the same in other places and if your Church okays it I'm guessing it will be recognised by them afterwards.
