So coming up with names for 2 boys was easy. We have Shaun Alfie (middle name after his grandfather) and Alexander Thomas David (all names after family: my grandfather, my father and Dhs grandfather, FIL)

Anyway. We can't agree on ANY names for our little girl. We have been through a thousand baby names books and similar. I make birthday cakes, wedding cakes etc and see a lot of names every day. We have each drawn up lists of every name we like.

My list:

*Ellis
*Carlie (my sister is Claire and this is made from the same letters, my other sister is Carol and it's similar sounding so it seems perfect as a first or middle name)
*Alyssa
*Callie
*Millie
*Poppy
*Annabelle (Anna for short)

His list:

*elizabeth
*victoria
*Rosie
*Lillian
*Emily

We haven't come across a single other name either of us like and neither of us even remotely like any of the names on the other's list. We can't even agree on a middle name. His mum keeps asking us to give the baby her name (Geraldine) and we are both agreed that we don't want to give our baby that name and have told her so. We don't have a great stock of other family names to draw from. DHs only grandmother was called Margaret (which we dislike) and both my grandmothers were called Mary but unfortunately this is also my mothers name and I don't have a relationship with her at all so wouldn't want to name my child after her. None of them (including my MIl) have a middle name other than one of my grandmothers who had the middle name Jane. I like this as a middle name in her memory but DH hates it and any variation.

We are stuck. :shrug::shrug::shrug:

OH and I are the complete opposite. We could agree on 100 girl names but have 0 boy names.

The names we like are:
Isabelle, Isabella, Ivy, Sophie, Sophia, Emma, Emily, Olivia, Evie, Isla, Ella, Rosie (can't use with our surname), Heidi and Mia.

I love the names Darcy, Jane and Mary but only as middle names.

I love the names you have! DH and I pretty much were dead set on Annabelle (Anna/Annie) but now with that scary movie coming out....

I think Emily and Millie are adorable!

On his list, I loooove Rosie! It's on our list!

Suggestions of similar names from our list:

Emmie/Emmy/Emme
Lucille (Lucy)
Betsy
Daisy
Evangeline (Evie)
Juniper (Junie)
Josephine (Josie)
Posey
Aurora (Arie)

I feel your pain. I dislike many, and by many i mean mostly all, girls names and have a feeling even when we conceive that we'll have a problem agreeing. I don't mind sharing my short list though. I hope it helps some...

Elyse
Lyla
Hannah
Dominique
Aurelia

Some others that don't bother me too much..
Lauren
Kaylee
Cori
Trystan
Alexandra nn Alex
Corliss
Felicity

You know, I had a friend who had this problem too with middle names, maybe you should look a few generations back? I have a friend who gave her daughter my middle name because she didn't feel close enough to any of her family members (mine is Lillian by the way!lol)

My MIL is Geraldine too and wanted our daughters named after her...I put my foot down on that one!

You both have a lot of good names on your list. My favourites are Alyssa, Annabelle, Victoria (although I don't like nn of Tori or Vicky so that got crossed off my list), and Emily. I think Annabelle Victoria sounds very elegant.

A middle name can have meaning without being after a family member. We had the same situation in taht we just didn't like the names, or family members sharing names and we didn't like one of them so we didn't want our kids to be named after them. We ended up picking middles names that had meaning to us. I had a miscarriage before dd1 and conceived her 2 weeks later by accident, her middle name is "Grace", as in out little grace from above! Dd2 we had a down syndrome scare during pregnancy hence mn "Hope". Maybe pick something that is meaningful to both of you.

My Grandmother's name is also Geraldine I will never use that name as she is a very evil person. lol

Must be a Geraldine thing...my MIL is the devil incarnate :P

Callie & Rosie are my favourites from the lists!

In an effort to appease I tried to find alternative names that could be taken from the letters of Geraldine. The list will be of no surprise;

danger
Large
Anger
Angered

Heehee :) I did suggest giving her the middle name 'Danger' but it was met with a frosty glare from MIL ;)

Hahaha danger, too funny. Gotta love MIL's ;)
Geraldine is DEFINITELY not my favourite name... Lol

Out of your lists I love Poppy and Millie :)

bahaha Danger. Anger. I love it.
Well you know it's bad when my 5 year old cousin was watching 101Dalmations (cartoon) and the part comes on when Cruela is driving like a maniac looking all kinds of scary, and my cousin says "oooohhh that looks like Grandma!":haha:

How about using Emily then have the nn Millie?
You both have some beautiful names on your lists!

That was going to be my suggestion too if you aren't opposed to nicknames. If I didn't know an Emily it's what I'd be using myself!

It's a good suggestion but I really do dislike Emily and DH hates Millie.

Could combine two names you like to make one new and unique name.

How about Anna Rose or Lillianna/Lilliana as a compromise for you both? I think you've both got some really pretty names on the lists

Great suggestion of Emily, nn. Millie! That definitely unifies your two lists!! Thoughts??

The names you made out of Geraldine cracked me up - it's so funny that you told your MIL that!! Haha (you can also add greed & rage to the list!!)

Emily Claire
Emily Caroline
Emily Carolyn

As far as Geraldine - how about Geri? Or Deena? Maybe Nadine (similar letters)?

Deena Claire?

I love the name Alyssa; But Annabelle I think is a no-go due to that TERRIFYING doll movie! Yikes!

How about Calista, nn. Callie - maybe your OH would like that option?

Oops - just saw you already responded to the Emily suggestion!
