Hello Mums

Just a quick question,

I have given my LO milky tea and then after i was thinking ''is this ok to give my 11 month old?''

I tried searching on google and there is nothing that kinda suggests its good or bad so decided to ask the real mums on here. Who gives there LO milky tea who's the same age as my LO Jasmine

also can anyone give advise on this subject

Thanks mums

Its caffiene thou. which reduces the absorption of iron.

I would just give her warm milk.

I don't think its a very good idea as it has caffeine in and its not necessary anyway. You could try some herbal teas if you want to give tea instead.

It's not the best thing to give as the tanning in tea can hinder iron absorbtion

thanks mums

To be honest i didnt realize the contents of tea, stupid i know,

Ive only done it once so not again, learn by my mistakes

I have tried green tea with her but she pulls a funny face and spits it out

any ideas on brands I should try with her

Like the others said about iron but also I don't see any point in it tbh I would just give warm milk

i just wanted to see if she likes it as I am trying her with new things

I dont give her juice only water and milk so I thought why not tea

she is always after the tea whenever me and my OH are drinking it

sorry mums:cry:

Don't be sorry, you have nothing to be sorry about :hugs:

Babies don't need anything other than water or milk but if you like to try with new things that's your decision

My LO tried tea - mostly as she was obsessed with trying to get my cup so i thought, ok, fine, try a mouthful... fully expecting her to hate it, she gulped a mouthful then tried to get more :dohh:
Now, i don't drink tea with a baby on my knee :)

It used to be pretty common to give babys tea but personally i dont see the point.

To me tea is a adults drink

this is very common practise in eastern cultures so don't beat yourself up about it

You don't need to apologise hunni! :hugs: being a mum is a huge learning curb and it never ends!
You love your daughter and care, hence you asking that question :flower:

Don't be sorry.

It's ok, i used to give Mollie tea, i had no clue about the tanin.

What about Horlicks or Ovaltine :)

decaffeinated weak milky tea isn't bad :) just no sugar, make it weak and i'm sure it'll be fine. in a balanced diet small things like this are not a bad thing.

When I was a toddler, I used to pound on the wall of my room from crib, saying "cup of tea!" over and over. My mom gave me tea in my bottle. I grew up like this, and when my adult teeth came in, they became horribly stained. I was made fun of nonstop in school by other children. I had them dental painted, and eventually I had experimental (at the time) laser surgery on my front two teeth to have it removed.

When adult teeth come in, they are soft and porous, and they became stained from the tea.

So, as someone who has experienced the downside of this, I say not to do it!!

We drink de-caffinated tea in my house so maybe you could use that instead of stronger tea if you really want your LO to have it, otherwise i would suggest warm milk :)

You can get a caffiene free tea its made by redbush tescos sell it
The only thing i would say is that your LO is still getting alot of nutrients from formula or breastmilk so id only give it if LO is eating and drinking more than enough in the day. Ill probably give alfie a milky tea after 12 months though as he still has alot of formula and not alot of food.
Dont beat yourself up about it though hun.

I give aiden milky tea now and again otherwise he wants mine but hes 16 months, i always had it as child xx

i gave tea 2 both my other girls from about 9 months.....not every day and not as a subsitute for water or their milk...just for a different taste etc. I believe a little bit of everything is fine in moderation. Elsa-May is 8 months on weds, and i gave her a small amount of milky tea in her beaker for the first time today (she loved it lol)

thanks mums for your imput

Its a real help to find out all of your stories of what you give your little ones :hugs:
