giving baby milky tea

I havent, not because of the tannin/iron ect - mostly because I barely get enough time to make myself a cup of tea, so to go through the extra effort of making it for him, I just wouldnt bother! Lol!

Everything in moderation x

everyone is right, the tanning reduces the absorption of iron, you can get special childrens tea, redbush I think its called, they do a vanilla flavour but personally I would just give warm milk x

and decaf doesnt make a difference as its the tannin not the caffine xxx

I wouldn't give it for all the reasons mentioned really. Helen doesn't drink milk so if I wanted to give her a warm drink I might try peppermint tea or camomile but she's happy with water at the moment.

I've been wondering about this as LO keeps doing her best to get into our mugs if OH or I are holding her and drinking tea, she's probably just curious and obviously she's too young now but I'll probably give her a taste of milky tea when she's nearer one. It won't be something she has regularly but I don't suppose the odd cup can do any harm.

this is very common practise in eastern cultures so don't beat yourself up about it

In Japan at least babies aren't given green tea or English tea because they both contain caffeine- what is common here is giving babies weak barley tea from about 6 months, but that is very mild and has no caffeine.

My little girl used to love the last little bit of tea at the bottom of my cup. Even now at 2 she stands and waits for it sometimes! My 5 year old occasionally has a little cup if we've been out somewhere and it's cold. We will get home and she will have a milky cuppa and a biscuit to dunk. I always had a little cup of tea when I was little.

Ruby has a tiny bit of tea, it's literally about a tablespoon of my tea and the rest milk. It's such a tiny amount (and she is older) I let it go as she enjoys it so much.

I give Niamh chamomile, peppermint and rooibos tea but wouldent give her english breakfast tea.

i was always told decaf tea is okay but never to give tea with a meal as the tanin hinders iron absorption! on its own during the day would be fine.
