Just got back from my OB/Gyn appointment and after sitting there and talking to her about the fact that I'm diabetic already (developed GD with previous pregnancy) why would I need to take a glucose test to send my blood sugar level up to 220 on purpose. She then came back with "well when you're already an established diabetic, we like to have you take four glucose tests throughout your pregnancy to see how your body handles it and what we should do medication/insulin wise." This makes no sense to me!! Has anyone else heard of this before?

Sheesh... and all along I thought that keeping my blood sugar below 120 on a daily basis was a GREAT thing... No clue.

Other than that and my teeth hitting the floor when she said that appointment went great and I'm almost nine weeks! HAPPY DANCE!

Please let me know if you've ever heard of this or have had to go through it - it just seems backwards and crazy to me.

I would think if you monitor your sugars throughout the day and have the blood test (A1C?) at the doctor to look for trends they wouldn't put your body/ baby through the GTT. I HATED the GTT I took. I was SO hot in the freezing cold hospital. I left completely soaked. I don't see a point in doing the test if they already know you are diabetic. I would insist they rely on the daily logs and the A1C test results.

That definitely seems ridiculous. I'd just skip the test and keep monitoring your own blood sugar, and if there's a problem, then see an endocrinologist about it.

Thank you both for getting back to me, I do sincerely appreciate it. I'm still in shock that they want to do FOUR glucose tests to see how my body handles being shocked up to 220 blood sugar levels. Umm, I can tell you how that would turn out! LOL Not good at all!

I think the next time I go in, show them my daily log with sugar levels, food diary, etc and show her that I am already on top of it, and if it ever went above 150 to contact the office immediately. So far I'm sitting pretty between 90-120 everyday depending on when I test after eating. Seems to me this is an ideal range and should be best left alone. Oh well, I don't have a medical degree so we shall see!

Thank you both lots and lots!
