This girl could sing 'Baa Baa black sheep', count to 10- she knew what a hair bobble and bracelet was and said their names so clearly. She knew George pic had a dinosaur. Her mum was eating some swiss roll and she said 'can I have some sandwich'. She tasted it and went 'oh no, thats cake'. She told her mum her nappy was stinky and needed changing! I was mesmerised by how articulate and intelligent this girl was, she's 2 in Dec but looks 3-4.

I love my little boy so much, he knows lots of separate words and says one linked phrase of daddy gone, gone work. He is nowhere near like this girl though. he never tells me his nappy is dirty, never says mummy even. I am worried I am holding him back or doing something wrong to slow down his development and not giving him the best start.

River isnt doing that stuff now and shes 2 in October. Kids develop at different speeds. Try not to worry :)

Thanks hun, aw I know and I could hit myself as I always told myself I would never ever try and compare but I couldnt help it yesterday, she sounded like she was 4 years old. Just made me think what has she done differently to bring her daughter on so much. Silly I know but it made me feel guilty like I have done something wrong. x

Ruby was talking similarly to that at that age but she's been pretty slow in most other developmental areas!

In my experience, once they start talking they progress really quickly. They all do different things at different stages :hugs:

Dec wasnt talking great at that age but he was good at other stuff, he was fully potty trained at 21 months and could ride a proper bike at 20 months. They all develop different things at different rates :)

:hugs: Hun, when they are both at school at 6 years old you probably won't even notice a difference!!!!! Try not to stress too much. He will catch up eventually. And most importantly, Lucas is GORGEOUS

No Hun, you're not doing something wrong. Omar has a very strong memory, he talks in sentences using 2 languages, he knows the alphabet, numbers, etc

I don't sit & teach him, he learns from Mickey club house & playing. If he hears a song or a rhyme he picks up the words easily & he starts singing it.

He started to notice letters from the toddlers music class when he was 16 months, they used to introduce one letter every class, at home he started to notice his name letters on his room's wall & ABC floor mat. Now he knows all letters upper & lower case.

He learned numbers from the elevator. We live on the 22nd floor & the only way to distract him from pressing the buttons was showing him the numbers & counting.

They are different hun, Omar can't feed himself, he can't climb the stairs alone, he can't ride a bike, he doesn't even self settle at bedtime & naps. He learned recently to drink from a sippy without help.

seriously I have one who walked at 19 months and one who still doesnt at 20 months!!!!! I have been throught the ringer a million times - beating myself up over and over about being a crap mum and now I am done - they are getting their just in their own time.

I think its a sliperry slope when you start doubting yourself - you are doing amazingly my sweet and most importantly your best!!!!!

Don't worry hun, my nephew is only two weeks apart from my eldest and we spend alot o time together, my DD can speak much clearer and knows alot more words than my nephew, however my nephew can run better, walk more steadily, jump which my DD is so rubbish at it's funny! They all develop differently.

One thing I have learnt is to NOT try to compare your child to others. They are all different.
I was told the other week that Emma is at an age 3 level, but I think that in a way that is because we talk to her and treat her like a mini adult, so I dont get to baby her (I would coochie coo her all the time if I could but OH and my parents wont stand for it!). But I was like she is when I was her age.

My friends boy is only 4 months younger than emma, but he is not at the same level she was at at his age, but I was told by parents of boys that they progress in language skills at a diff level to girls, but that they are better at motor skills or something like that. It doesnt make a difference at all in later life.

I wouldn't worry, I knew a little girl who was walking at 9 months and talking in sentences before she was two... her and my daughter go to school together now and Madeleine has caught up. You can't tell Madeleine didn't talk till she was three!

Don't worry - Mog isn't doing most of that at 2, all she can do off that list is count to ten, and only becase we spent HOURS teaching her. It's fine :) Every kid is different.

Charlie had really good speech at that age too (everybody assumed he was much older because of his vocabulary and he's very articulate) but he was a really slow walker and never crawled or climbed or any other things that I used to stress about that other LO's were doing. I know it's SO hard but don't compare them at this age as it's all so different - and it's taken me ages to get my head round this :flow:

Not at all... you are doing a fab job! I do find development interesting but I try really hard not to compare (hard as it is). My LO will be 20 months tomorrow and is still no where near walking- not even with support. She has a huge range of single words and understands and responds to most of what I say to her but she is not putting words together yet.

Please don't compare - Tom is 21 months and pretty much the same as your LO. And especially never compare boys and girls development - the extra testosterone that boys have to basically make them develop into men, causes brain connections to be made more slowly in areas like language than ingirls but they tend to a lot stronger with running, jumping etc. I know this isn't always true and some boys are good at language (or amazing like Omar!).

They all get there in the end and by the time they start school you can't tell who did what 1st.

Don't worry,..it's annoying when people say this but it's true...all babies are different. Ash at one was putting small sentences together 'more dink pweez' and by two was talking in full conversations like that little girl but Tristan hardly attempts any words and can say only 7 words in total!
Ds1 has started school and they are all the same really.

Yeah really dont compare, theyre all SO different! They all take time to do different things. Its not that your not doing anything wrong its just your LO is develpoing differently *to her*. Once theyre all in school nobody will know who walked/talked/sang/recited the alphabet first.

My LO can do those things, shes just turned 21months, she can sing a few songs knows shapes and stuff, but its just her? Its nothing im doing differently. Like Blah said, once they start talking, they just keep going.. ITs unreal actually..

Dont worry, Your LO is perfectly normal :hugs:

Willows words are starting to come along thick and fast but only recently :D

My friends daughter is a week younger then Willow and i can have a full conversation with her! its really funny.
I know we all say "dont worry about it" but we all do and we all secretly compare what one child can do against another. I wonder when it all stops? when we all stop comparing and worrying about who does what better!

You son sounds completly and utterly normal :D
By the way "they" say that by time they are 2 they should know about 50 words, i thought this was mad as Willow was no where near this! Then in the past 2 weeks, i counted them all and she is near 50 already! :)
That said, if they dont know 50 words i wouldnt say thats anything to worry about either.
As i once saw on Micheal Mcintyre show, its not like they are going to be 45 years old and crawling into a cocktail party unable to walk or speak to anyone! :D

xx
