Gobsmacked at how advanced a girl the same age as my son was.. 20-21mths

As i once saw on Micheal Mcintyre show, its not like they are going to be 45 years old and crawling into a cocktail party unable to walk or speak to anyone! :D

Although leaving the coctail party may be a different story . . . :haha:

It is hard to compare and we all know we shouldn't but at the same time, we are always cautious that we aren't 'keeping them back' which is the main reason we end up doing it in the first place I think. It just because you care, it just difficult to find that balance! I find it quite difficult when family mention how well my cousin's little boy is doing, or my aunts little girl is doing purely because between them and my LO there a week between them all, but strangely enough kids at nursery or in the Bumpkin group also born in October I don't get so het up about. Anyway, I digress . . . However, I totally agree with what everyone else has said - they do all develop differently and it doesn't mean you are doing anything wrong. He will get there in his own time and I think its more important that he is having fun right now :flower:

Awww Its not easy but it really is best not to compare. As others have said they all do things in their own time :) The thing I wanted to say is that you don't know what is going on in that handsome little head, chances are that he has taken absolutely EVERYTHING in, could have a deeper understanding of how different things work and one of these days he's going to give you the shock of your life showing understanding of things which you hadn't even realised you'd shown him.

Boys and girls do develop at different rates, we've all seen the headlines about how girls out perform boys at school until they reach a certain age (can't remember what) and then it all evens out and then boys tend to do better at things like maths and physics.

Thank you all. He definitely understands everything I say. I gave him his dirty clothes before and asked him to go and put them in the washing basket and he did! He also runs to the washing machine when i ask if he wants to help put the clothes in and he tried getting the hoover out when I said I was going to hoover. He is so enthusiastic bless him, he goes around the room pointing and saying the words for all the things he knows which is sweet.

I guess youre right with the physical stuff too. He is a great climber, he gets off the beds and everything himself, climbs the stairs, comes down holding my hand, he has started trying to jump up and down and he marches when 'grand old duke of york' is played and hes running so maybe hes concentrating more on this side of things x thanks for all your comments :)

different kids do things at different ages... by her age my son was fully potty trained, but his speech only came on more clearly when he was 3.

my son has a friend who can write letters, draw smiley faces, etc. My son is older than her and he cant but he speaks more clearly than her and he can memorise words to songs in an instant.

so dont worry, its all normal and will even out eventually. they have little spurts of growth.

Oh, I know how you feel!! My parents have been to see their god daughter today (who is two weeks younger than Frankie) and she can walk and say a good few words. As they were telling me this, my Mum could obviously see in my face what I was thinking and she was quick to tell me that old chestnut "all babies do things in their own time". She is, of course right. Your LO will do what he wants when he is ready, as will mine!! Mine is a very happy baby and no matter how hard I tried to encourage him, he just would not crawl or move until he was nearly 11 months old. I was convinced there was something wrong with him but now he crawls at speed, bum shuffles, climbs stairs, walks with his push along walker . . . all within 6 weeks!! I have been amazed at this big developmental spurt and feel more confident now that he just has to want to do things and be ready to do them, it doesn't matter one tiny bit what I want him to do!!! xx

God know! You are doing just great!

Children all develop at their own rates: an early developer is not neccessarily an indicator of later success and a later developer certainly isn't an indicator against later success!

Give your son lots of love, patience, understanding and encourage his passions and you will be amazed at his development. ;)

All babies are soooo different!!mikayla was quite advanced at that age but then all her friends caught up cos she slowed down but the kept going!as long as there is no markers to worry about speech delay that may need therapy don't worry!read him books play with him and let him play with other kids and you are doing all that u can do to ensure he develops at his best!my niece was super smart and still is,she knows lots of Spanish cos of Dora has been able to write her name and families name for a while now (she's 3 1/2 but has done all this since before 3) and does lots of other advanced things but she is not very good socially and prefers to play by herself, has a funny temperament ect.mikayla is slightly ahead(I think due to spending large amounts of time with her cousin)but is very very social, loving, makes friends every where she goes and is polite doesn't fight ect.all kids are so different and are good at different things and learn at different paces.he is fine and you shouldn't worry at all.
