Going against Dr's advice - please read - Opinions needed

Gaviscon doesn't thicken milk.

It forms a gel over the stomach contents but only when in the stomach. Bigger size teats are frequently advised on here for gaviscon but it isn't needed. Faster flow teats are only needed for actual thickened milk, or as baby gets bigger and needs them (Dr Browns is sz 1 for birth to 3 months, sz 2 from 3 months old, size 3 from 6 months approx)

Holly had silent reflux and gaviscon made her worse. I think I would try a couple of feeds without anything, then with dentinox, then try the gaviscon. The dr is right in a way - when there are a lot of things being used together it can be hard to see what is causing the problem. I didn't follow the docs advice to use gaviscon because it was clear that it was making her worse. x x

My LO is breastfed, so obviously it wasn't teats or bottles, but it sounds like he was just the same as your LO when he was younger. He struggled so much with wind, he was constantly screaming after feeds and you could hear his stomach gurgling and bubbling away. He'd throw himself backwards, kick his legs and moan. Gripe water was the only thing that brought him any relief. I'd say try just milk for the rest of the day, then maybe go for the wind relief first. There seem to be alot of babies diagnosed with reflux, but wind can be just awful too.

Hope things settle down for you soon. My LO just grew out of it eventually. I hope your does the same

Yeah and that's why it's not to b added to a milk such as staydown coz it would get waaaayyyy to thick.u hear so much different advise that in the end u dunno which way to turn lol xx

Isla had silent reflux, she is 10 months now and it has finally gone

I had the advice that you had, only give gaviscon with no other meds. I was also told that it takes up to a week to see any change

I would definitely try a bigger teat, this worked a treat for isla

I wouldn't say that the gaviscon was great, but my doctor refused to give us anything else, so we made the best of a Bad situation.

Silent reflux is awful, I hope you get the help you need

TBH if the dentinox drops work then i would just carry on with those i dont see the point in carrying on with gaviscon when you have already found something which helps him.

I tried gaviscon (my LO has silent reflux) and it made him terribly constipated and really poorly and he was never constipated before that so if your LO is already having probs with constipation i would just keep an eye on it. I think i tried it for a couple days and stopped because it was just awful.
