Going out when formula feeding?

I was just wondering how you ladies manage your feeds when you're out and about?
I was bought a few cartons so have been using these, but I would prefer to use powder and water as Jake seems to prefer it!

I have no idea how to go about bottles, water, milk everything! xxx

i take my bottles with cold freshly boiled water in them, plus the scoop from the formula box, then i got a airtight container (they do 4 £1 in poundland, and they will help when weaning as well) put powder in that, and then when Kay is hungry just add the powder shake, and hey presto!! =D xxx

I've got one of these containers - they sell them everywhere at similar prices

Then depending on where I'm going I'll either take a sterilised empty bottle (visiting family etc), or a bottle with freshly boiled water (going to shops etc), which can be warmed or cooled when needed.

I have a formula container which carries 3 servings of formula powder. I carry a bottle and 2 bottles with caps with the water. I also carry an extra cap for the bottle I'll be shaking it because it's easier than shaking with your finger over the nipple.

Ah thank you! I love the little tub!
I think I may have to get one :D!
Im still paranoid about not making the feeds up as I need them, but I really really want to be able to make the water up in the bottles in the morning so i can just grab one as and when I need one! xxxx

Hi

Tommee Tippee do containers where you can measure up to 8oz of powder in then store then inside your bottle and just shake it in when you need it.

I have to admit I boil up a few bottles worth of water in the morning and let them cool, rather than doing it every time.

I use comfort milk and they don't do cartons, but most formula makes do ready to use cartons. More pricey but very handy.

xx

I use cartons, at first I took bottles with water etc but I found my bag got too full  and it's much easier to just open q carton! It is a little bit more expensive though. Not excessively though IMO! I use probably 6-8 cartons a week and they're 56p each. When I'm visiting people though I take powder and empty bottles and just boil water as I need it :)

I prepare the bottle before I go out and put it in a bottle bag which is insulated and keeps it warm for up to 2 hours.

I boil the kettle, leave to cool for 15 mins and then put into a sterile bottle....so its still boiling hot and chuck into your changing bag

so by the time Jake needs a feed the boiling water will have cooled to perfect temp...and just use the powder container to add your powder :winkwink:

(oh and I got my powder separator from tescos for like £3...) it goes in the sterilizer with the scoop and bottles so everything is sterile inside the powder container once you've measured them out and sealed it, so no worrying...

easy peasy

I have a bottle bag that keeps them warm for up to 4 hours i have a container as well witht the little compartments in it.

i bought a milk tower from toys r us £3.99

Its the size of a 'dr brown' bottle and has 3 seperate sections in it you can unscrew which you pre measure milk powder into.

the lid part has a small screw hole which you open to tip the powder into the water.

I carry bottles of boiled water and my milk tower whr ever i go and do the same at night :0)

simply unscrew, pour and shake x hey presto :0)

GENIUS INVENTION ;0)

yep i do the same, jack takes it at room temp so no need to warm the milk, its so much easier

I don't really see the point in the cartons, because they come as 7oz feeds (I think), so if your LO's not on 7oz, the rest of it is wasted. Just don't really understand why you would pay extra and then waste some of it

I measure out each feed and put it in a little plastic pot (bought from mothercare). My LO takes her feeds at room temp, so I just put the correct amount of water for a feed into each of the bottles I take, and normally fill one of the bottles to the top, just in case I need extra water.

When she wants a feed, I tip one of the pre-measured pots of powder into a bottle, and it's ready. If she wants more, I aleways carry extra powder, and extra water, so can give a top up.

We use the cartons when out, and then what we don't use of it we tip the rest into a sterilsed bottle and put it into a cool bag to then transfer to the fridge when we get home for later x

Great thread, I was wondering what to do when going out too, all the formula tubs say you should make fresh each time but how can you do that?

cheers girls

I either take empty sterile bottles with me and use cartons of aptamil or I take the powder in measured amts with sterile bottles and cool boiled water, which I'll heat when needed.

they sell the containers with 3 compartments for 79p in home bargains xx

It is only in UK that the formula companies say to make each feed as you go. All other countries say it is safe to make them up in advance!! Health and safety!!

xx

if i go out, i either take bottles i made earlier in a cool bag with ice packs to keep them cold and then warm when needed (can take a flask of boiling water and jug to warm the bottle in) or use cartons and just take empty sterilised bottles. I don't personally take the cold boiled water out and then just add powder as the powder is not sterile so i always make my bottles using boiling water to kill any bugs in the powder xxx
