Going to be a big baby- worried

They cant b that accurate at guessing weights before the baby is born, I was told my baby would be around 6lbs and he was actually 8lb12!! Had a 4 degree tear but when ur actually giving birth u dont really feel it, its only days later and the strong painkillers wear off! whatever will be will be! :)

I totally agree

With my last pregnancy they spent ages telling me he was too small,
getting me worried so i ate more!

Then told me he was too big, over 10lbs!!

Turns out he was only 8lbs!! :dohh:

Oh I know they can be completly off with scan growth estimates but correct me if I am wrong this is normally + or - 2 lbs?? so last week at 33 weeks scan estimate was 8lbs (meaning probably 6lbs if I go with the lesser weight) which I think is still big with a good few weeks to go?

My last baby was only 8lbs 1 but I was on low dose of insulin that time anbd he never measured way ahead like this baby is now, so I can only guess that this baby is going to be huge but I hope he is not as I did have quite a few stiches the 1st time around....

wow, reading these posts make me scared! My DD was 9lb6, and that was bad enough, reading some of you that have had bigger!

I really don't want another c-section! I do like the gravity comment tho! x

Bump measuring is not a very reliable source of size though, I got sent for a growth scan because baby was measuring 7-8cm ahead on fundal height, turns out he is long in the body and average weight, have to go back in 3 weeks if he isnt out by then for another scan but they arent concerned so neither am I.

My first was early at 35wks 4 days and weighed 6lb 6oz this baby was 7lb at 35wk 5 days scan so seemingly similarly sized babies just one is gonna cook a little longer.

My best friend is a size 6 )UK) and has now had 3 children, her first was a girl weighing 10lb 6oz, her second another girl was 10lb 9oz and the third was a little boy weighing in at 10lb14 - she gave birth to them all naturally with no tears etc and looked barely pregnant with them. I think a lot is how baby lies and how you carry him/her. They will be what size theyre destined to be, just think years ago we would never have known all this information and probably would all have been more relaxed!

Ouchhhh!! I'm scared now!! My baby is measuring big so I have a GTT and growth scan next week!! I hope they just got my fundal heght wrong!

Amber was HUGE at 36 weeks, a good 3 weeks ahead. Had an elective at 37 weeks and she was 6lb15oz... So they were a bit off the mark there.

I had an elective due to DS2 being an em c section and a LOT of other complications going on as well as them being worried due to my history. Was very worried at how well I would recover.

Needn't have worried at all. First week was hard work, Amber was in SCBU and it was a LONG walk several times a day and night. Home after 8/9 days.

Driving after 2 weeks pain free. Bit niggly come dinner time, so I took a volterol then, but I was amazed at how quickly I recovered. Very different to my em c section.

My biggest was 9lb 11oz and he was evicted no problem at all lol.

My grandad in law was born at 14lbs naturally from a 5ft mother......seriously there's hope for us all lol!

5-6lb at 33 weeks is ok. They don't grow that much from then on anyway, about an average of half a pound a week? Then usually no growth or very little from 38weeks, so 6lb at 33 weeks, is a probable birth weight of 8 and a half pound.

DS2 was 5lb12oz at 33 weeks (birth) DS1 was 5lb5oz at 35 weeks (birth). Both weight scans estimated them at around 4lb only a few days before birth. And as I said, Amber was estimated as over 8lb at 36 weeks, at 37 weeks she was 6lb15oz (birth).

The thing about GD babies is that while they weigh heavy, their heads are not usually large. It tends to be body fat that makes up the weight, and they lose that pretty quickly after birth. Amber was a wee porker, few weeks later she was skinny and long.

Length has to be taken into consideration also. If the femur length is longer, they will up the estimated weight. But usually it just means you have a tall baby.
