well the announcment for the Territorial Army (now the Army Reserves) has been made and it has now been made official that the regiment i work for as a civilian is going :( my unit will be no more by april next year and there will be no more work for me by august next year.

I've been told to wait it out and see what happens but i can't help but panic. since i started working at 16 i have never been out of work for longer than 4 months and with the current economic climate i know there is a good chance it will take months if not well into a year to find a job with the same pay bracket (anything less and i wouldn't be able to afford childcare)

also now with this all going on its making me regret my tattoos. i love my tattoos but now i feel like i shouldnt have them. they can be covered but not without me looking like a nun! i have a feeling not many jobs round my area will support me with my tattoos :( i just feel like crying.

I find out later today officially what will be happening to my post and the definite timescale i have. i really hope that there is a redundancy plan in place because i know i will be surviving off the money for quite some time!

no need to reply really i just need to vent and get my worries out there otherwise i will only end up driving myself crazy.

Awwww :hugs: sweetie. I know how hard it is. I've been made redundant twice in my life & it can really knock you for six.

How long have you worked there? Check your contract for your redundancy package.

Now for the positives, both times I've been made redundant I have ended up with a better job that I've enjoyed more... Not at first, I did have to take a pay cut to get a foot in the door but you can progress & i looked at it as an opportunity to decide what I wanted to do next.

The other plus side is that you have a long time to try & find something to suit you, lots of people only get a few weeks notice. If you find something before next August you'd have to weigh up taking the job sooner & not taking the redundancy money, I guess it would depend on how much that would be.

& I also took out a redundancy insurance after the second time lol!

Good luck
xx

What announcement is this hun? Is it a full time unit you work for being disbanded? I am absolutely sickened by what the government is doing, tbh I was only thinking about the soldiers I hadn't even considered that of course civilian staff would go as well, so sorry hun :flower:

Aww so sorry to hear that. It's so horrible, my hubby was made redundant last year but now is in a job which he likes even better. Everything happens for a reason, something good will come from it even if it doesn't feel like it now. All the best xxx

Everything happens for a reason, I was made redundant a few years ago but found a job that is much better. You can also get some cover up make up for your tattoos x

it's a TA unit (well army reserves now) but i work full time for it as there is always things going on.

My regiment is downgrading to a squadron and moving location replacing another unit locally. there is a possibilty of moving with them (as i live close enough to the new location) but that is only if they require the admin support as there will already be AO's there (because of the replacing of the unit currently there)
we have seen the timeline breakdown and the regiment will no longer exist and the new squadron will be moved by no later than 31st march 2014.

i will be entitled to a redundancy payout but not much. i have been looking into other things in my area but it would mean taking a dramatic pay cut (by almost 5 grand a year) so i am holding out to see if i can move with my unit if not then its a case of put up and shut up.

i've had to cancel our holiday for this year and next year until i know what is going on with the finances i need every penny in the bank for incase i have a period out of work. if work isnt stressful enough i have all these other stresses with redunancy and possibilty of being out of work and looking for a new job to contend with.

oh and another thing so we don't panic the personnel in the regiment we have to 'pretend like nothing major is going on' i mean WTF?? i then have all the stress of prentending like i'm fine with it all as well!!
