How bad would it be if you never went to the doc and discussed ttc with them, before you ACTUALLY started TTC?

I really dont want to go, considering im 18 and how much crap they will give me... But honestly how many of you girls have gone before getting preggo

I went to my doc and i was 17 when i went. No lectures, just the usual take folic acid etc. If you dont want to go then you dont have to, you can get just as much info from the net as you can your doctor.

Why would a Doctor give you crap about TTC at 18? or any age for that matter? you'll be fine, they will treat you like any other person, why shouldn't they.

I never went to the Doctor about TTC, but this past week i had an appointment for other things with my family doctor and i had to answer that i was not on BCP and was TTCing which was a good thing to tell her because she almost prescribed me some medication that would not have been healthy for me to take if i was trying for a baby. She also prescribed me some calcium (because i don't drink milk, ever, she felt i should be taking some) and prenatal pills! Which is a blessing because it saved me $$ as i get my prescriptions from her for free.

If you don't make an appointment to talk about TTC with your Doctor, then be sure to let the Doctor know if you ever check in for other things, like myself. You definitely want to be sure you wont be prescribed anything that would be unhealthy for a potential baby.

When with my DH, we decided that we were going to start TTC, the first thing I did was go to see my doctor. I'm 24 and I really think that on this crazy journey of TTC the age doesn't matter, if you want to have a healthy TTC, you should see your doctor first, just to make sure everything is okay.

I would really suggest it. They can do some tests to determine if everything is ok. And it saves a lot of heartache, trust me.

I went aged 19 and again this year aged 33. Different Dr's in different practices and practially the same advice - they're there to help you not judge you. Go! x

Though saying that, most of the "judging" i had came from a nurse.

I didn't go to my doctors, i didn't really see the point unless i had any problems (but thats just me), and he was really pleased when i told him, no lectures saying i should have gone and informed him i was TTC etc.

Good luck!

I don't think they would give you any lectures. Probably just give you information on what to expect and a recommendation on a prenatal vitamin, etc.

You don't have to go, but it may be good just to make sure everything is OK, just in case you know? They may also want you to start taking a prenatal vitamin or folic acid if they know you will be TTC. I mentioned I was going to start TTC at my yearly last year and not only was it a relief to know all my regular tests came back ok, my doc answered a lot of questions I had. Good luck whichever you decide to do!

i went and my doctor was fine. I do have condtions so i wanted to check, im 25 and she did ask me what made me decide to ttc which i thought was a bit nosey like she was judging me...at 25?! But i think we all read into things and get paranoid, i think she was probably just making conversation!

She was pleased i went to see her as it doesnt happen that often...usually the people who go are already pregnant! She told me to continue taking foilc acid and she did bloods to check my hormines/if i was ovulating and to check i was immune to rubella. She said she doesnt think the multi-prenatal vitamins are important, just folic acid but im taking the multi type anyway!

Good luck!

I went before we started TTC just to see what the doctors thoughts were. He was very nice and they make it a point not to be judgemental because no one can tell you when or if you should be trying for a baby. Goodluck!

and it actually will show them how mature and serious you are about ttc and if great to know all the information you can get from the doctor.
i went 1.5 month ago and it felt good to talk to my OBGYN .

Just me, but I didn't go to doc before TTC this one. Last was a suprise, and during that pregnancy and birth we found out what we were up against. So we figured we'd try for a year and then if nothing we'd see a doctor. It took us 8 months.
