Okay ladies I'm going to my family doctor in 2 hours and I have some things I want to discuss with him. I haven't told him that my husband and I are TTC even though it's been over 1.5 years. (I'm not sure why)

What all should I tell him or ask him? I have been to my OBGYN twice since TTC so I have had a checkup and everything just not from my family doctor.

Well, he's been the one doing everything for my thyroid and I want to make sure my levels are A-OKAY finally for TTC. Last month he said my TSH is finally at 2.34 so it's within the normal range but is that good for TTC?

I don't know very much about thyroid levels so unfortunately can't help you with that one, but I would definitely tell him you are TTC, even if you are happy continuing with your OBGYN knowing the bulk of the information, just for things like prescriptions etc...so if you need any other medications he knows they need to be fertility friendly. I only mention it because I suffer from stomach ulcers and have taken every kind of medication going, last time I went to visit our GP he went to prescribe a medication for me, I didn't think twice, and he suddenly said "Oh, wait your trying to have a baby. Let me change that to a more baby friendly medication"

Has your OBGYN been able to run blood tests etc... to check other hormone levels such as progesterone? (I don't know much about how it works over in the US...so I apologise if I'm making no sense!)

Thank you for responding (:

I went to my OBGYN and was hoping they would order some blood work but they shrugged me off. I went to them when we started TTC and as soon as it was one year (In February) I went again which is when I was hoping for the blood work, and he did an exam and I tried asking him what else he could do but he was so quick to say he wouldn't do anything until I got my Thyroid levels regulated. I mean, I have no idea why he wouldn't order the blood work anyway... :( Can my regular doctor check that you think? I have no idea.

I also have a stomach ulcer but I'm not on any medications for it. I hope yours goes away!

Stomach ulcers suck!!

Well boo to your OBGYN, in that case I would definitely tell your family doctor, as far as I know (and I could be wrong) he could send for blood work for the normal TTC things like progesterone, FSH, LH, Prolactin etc... no problems, as well as discussing your thyroid levels with you and then talk about maybe the next steps and FS's/REs etc...

Whats the worst that could happen if you mention it to him? He might tell you to make another appointment with your OBGYN, but at least then you'll know and feel a little easier about it

Good luck hun! :flower:

I just got home (went to my mom's and had a cookout after the doctor). My doctor is all for letting me get more blood work to check my thyroid levels since it's been 6 weeks, and then I have an appt. to see an Endocrinologist on the 22nd and they can adjust my synthroid levels and if they don't my doctor said he would so that I felt comfortable about it. He wouldn't check my Progesterone levels because he said that he doesn't specialize in it and he doesn't want to give me wrong information and I 100% respect him for being honest because 99% of doctors are know it alls and never listen to their patients needs. I'm going tomorrow to get that done (:

Baby dust, is it a Reproductive Endocrinologist? If you've been TTC'ing for 1.5 years, I'd highly suggest getting a referral to an RE or fertility specialist (as Stephie B suggested).

Have you had an ultrasound done at least? You're going to need FSH, LH levels, estradiol, prolactin (done on CD3). You'll need CD21 progesterone as well. The OBGYN should be able to order these while you wait for a fertility specialist.

At least you're getting some stuff sorted through your GP and Endocrinologist. :)

I've only been to my OBGYN and GP. My OBGYN hasn't done a single thing to help so I'm switching OBGYN's. I'm making an appt. tomorrow at a new place and then I'm going from there.
