I am so p*ssed off right now, I got the blood test results back from the midwife at the EPU this morning, my m/c was last tuesday, i had bloods done within 2 hours m/c starting

my pogesterone level was way too low and is very proberbly why i lost the baby, the reason I am so p*ssed off is because 3 weeks before I lost the baby I asked for my levels to be checked as I was spotting and I have had a previous m/c due to very low levels, the doctor refused to do it saying that its not a routine test that is done in this country and there was no need.

I truly believe that with the progesterone suplement (that I am now being perscribed to start ttc'ing again) that my m/c was preventable.

Do I wanna poke the doctor who refused me in the eye, you bet your arses I do!! :hissy:

You must so angry :grr::grr: I was looking for an eye poking smiley for the doc... :grr: was the best i could find !!

Sorry i dont know much about progesterone levels... ive never had mine checked :hugs:

progesterone in a non pregnant woman is about 5-10, it goes up when you ovulate, its needed to ovulate and then goes higher if you fall pregnant, its needs to be between 20 and 60 to maintain a healthy pregnancy, its also what causes the sickness

so the worse your morning sickness is the higher your levels are, sickness is a good thing, lol. its also higher in twins for example.

if levels are too low, the pregnancy will proberbly end. my level was 11.

Hi Shel,

I had a miscarriage back in January at 10 weeks. I asked my Gyni would it have been due to low progesterone and he said no, that low progesterone is normally as a result of miscarrying which would explain why your progesterone was so low during your miscarriage - because you were actually miscarrying and your hormone levels were dropping.

There is also alot of speculation over whether or not progesterone supplements will have a benefical effect on a pregnancy. If the pregnancy is not viable then without doubt a miscarriage is going to occur and no amount of progesterone support is going to save it.

If I were you I would talk to your Doctor/Gyni again and ask them to do day 21 bloods to see what your hormone levels are like then and take it from there.

Grr! Get his sorry ass in trouble! I'm sorry this all happened to you..:hugs:

Hi Snowflake

sorry for your m/c

the midwife said yes that the levels drop when having a m/c but seeing as it had only just started and the level was so low then yes it would have been low to begin with.
i havent assumed this she told me my levels were too low to begin with and told me i need the supplements.
during my last m/c my level was 5 before i even started to bleed and they told me then that i would lose the baby soon.
if the progesterone supplements actually help i will have to wait and see, i hope they do.
with 5 angel babies now, i will try most things.

Hi Shel,

I am so sorry for what you have gone through. I had no idea that you had 4 miscarriages before this last one.

Has your Gyni/Hospital done all the necessary testing? I assume he would have done so before this last miscarriage? Why then did they not put you on some sort of supplement before you TTC last time? And why did they not put you on a Progesterone supplement as soon as you knew you had ovulated or found out you were pregnant? It is an absolute disgrace the way you have been treated and that only now, after a 5th miscarriage, they are finally putting you on something.

Hi, I have had 5 miscarriages and eventually got my progesterone level checked last month after asking for it. (I keep coming up with theories). The fact is though, as you had started spotting, taking progesterone would not have helped. Your level was probably very low because you did miscarry so try not to worry too much.

Hi Snowflake

Although I have lost five, they werent all together, I lost the 1st,2nd,4th,6th and now 8th pregnancy.

after losing the sixth I had tests and although i had low progesterone it was blamed on the marina coil that I had as aparently sometimes it can cause low levels after having it removed and seeing as they found other things to blame that was forgotten about, I have factor v leiden and prothrombin gene mutation (blood clotting disorders) these put me at high risk of a clot and very high risk when pregnant, so I now take aspirin and inject blood thinners into my stomach every day as soon as i get a bfp untill baby is 6 weeks old and number 7 pregnancy gave me a beautiful dd even though i still bled a bit.

The midwife has called me today after having spoken to a consultant who looked at all my blood results and agrees that my levels were too low even having started a m/c and to definatly try the supplements, they have no idea if it will help but it cant hurt.

I also saw my gp and told her about the other gp in the practice who refused my the test 2 weeks previous to the m/c, as senior partner she wasnt happy about it and said we will never know if the supplements may have prevented the m/c but I should have been tested and given the supplements back then.
