I've heard that unless grandparents are involved with the child, they don't have access rights. As in, if you let them see their grandchildren then suddenly stop them they can take legal action. But if they haven't been involved at all from birth, they don't have any rights. Can anyone confirm this?

I thought that grandparents didn't have any rights. There was something on the tv a week or so ago that said if they can't come to an agreement with the parents then they have to apply for the right to apply for a contact order. When applying for the right to apply they would have to prove that they had a relationship with the grandchild.

Grandparents do not get rights per say.... if this is FOB's parents... then it is on his time they are allowed to see your LO. As in, if FOB has baby then he can have baby with his parents.

:hugs:

Grandparents don't have any rights, what was on TV not long ago was about wanting them to have rights.
FOB's time with the girls includes his parents having time also. If they wanted to see the twins they can phone me but have chosen not to.

Like everyone above said, they dont have any rights at all. And if they do want them, they have to apply to the courts first to see if they can actually go to court to fight for them, but the only cases i have heard of getting that far is when say, a parent is fighting an addiction of some sort, so the grandparents get tempory custody until the parents sort themselves out, and when the parents sort themselves out they stop the grandparents seeing the child.

To get to court they have to proves that the relationship they had with the child is meaningful etc

Otherwise i would say their chances are nil really.

Strange question, but here goes...
Me and Connor have lived with my mum all the time. Now, FOB is a self centred weasel, but he's on the BC. If I died, he'd probs get custody. Would my mum be able to get access to see Connor? Because FON would more than likely not let her (because he's selfish, Connor adores my mum, but he wouldn't care).
my biggest worry :nope:

Even with a will your FOB can contest it and get custody of Connor but with regards to your mum seeing him I would assume that there is something she would be able to do as its a different circumstance but I'm not 100% sure.

no they don't.. at least not in the states. I interned at social services last semester and we had to deal with grandparents all the time and them having no legal rights or anything made it so difficult for them.

i think they have limited rights..
like they can apply for access - but it'd more likely be granted as a hour a month or so in a contact center..?
but they can apply seperately from FOB...
