Hello ladies

Im thinking of giving my lo a bit of gravy in a couple of weeks every now and again with his meals and i have stock cubes and heinz baby gravy in chicken/vegetable and beef.

Should i use these or would it be better just to use an oxo or some bisto with water. I know gravy is full of salt so i was wondering which would be the better option? Is baby gravy and normal so different?

Long term it would be a pain to keep buying heinz baby gravy as hes going to have to have normal gravy sooner or laterand i could use some of our gravy when we have meals but im just unsure which is best in regards to the salt content for now.

Thank you xx

with my first baby i seem to remember using the low salt bisto gravy granulesx

he's still too young to be having regular gravy, look at the nutritional info ( I found the info below from the heinz & oxo websites & official guidelines)

The food standards agency suggests a baby's RDA is 0.4g sodium. From 1 years old it's 0.8g sodium

heinz baby gravy has 0.18grams of sodium per 100 grams,
oxo chicken stock cube has 14.20grams of sodium per 100 grams (or 1.8grams per cube),

as you can see thats way too much for a baby that young :flower: hope this has helped

I don't use gravy either for any of LO's food's unless im making cottage or shepard's pie and I use heinz baby gravy.

I didn't give gravy til he was a few months older. I found baby gravy a right pain, cos it's hard to judge the quantities, and it's too expensive to waste!

I use normal low salt granules, and just go easy on the quantity. I doubt it would be suitable if you were giving large quantities or at every meal, but for a teaspoon or so every now and then I don't see it as a problem.

Thank you for the replies

Im just planning on giving a little amount when hes about 6 and a half months old. You can feeze the heinz ones once opened. I only want to give it him now and again when hes having chicken and mash with veg...like homecooked meals. Other sauces i will make fresh. I also have some stock cubes that you can make gravy with...are these better?? the boots organic ones x

I've not heard of the boots one before, look on the side of the packet at the amounts of salt/sugar to make sure how much it has and how much your lo can have :flower:
