In July, I decided to stop coloring my hair for good. I had just turned 35 when I started coloring the white hairs that were mostly still hiding underneath. I had also been plucking white hairs on top on a regular basis for a while and that's probably why I convinced myself that I was mostly white underneath and not on top. In July, I read a book called "Going Gray" by Anne Kreamer and changed my mind about going gray naturally (I hate white roots which I was plucking just one week after getting my hair colored at the salon--I figured I either needed to stop viewing my white hairs as ugly or I would end up bald, ha ha!). There were other reasons I chose to quit coloring my hair too, but now here I am 10% gray with an obviously pregnant belly and wonder how that looks. I just turned 36, and am told that my face still looks very young (in fact, many of my clients have made comments like, "What are you, like sixteen?" and I'm used to having to prove I am old enough to have the experience they desire and earn their trust). My older sister hasn't had even one gray hair yet and said recently, "So, are you not coloring your hair now cause you're pregnant?" When I told her that I had quit coloring even before I got pregnant, her jaw dropped and she replied, "When I go gray, I'm gonna color my hair until I die like Momaw" (our late grandmother). Our mother dyes her grays too as I know most women do. I guess I'm just feeling alone now, and I'm glad that coloring your hair in pregnancy isn't advisable because I might just cave, if I thought it was safe. Anyone else with some obvious grays to go with their pregnant belly?
