I have noticed William is having green stools and I wa told that was normal then I noticed there was blood in it last night in mucas stuff. I know its someting to do with hi not being able to digest milk I a drinking but what do I have left to eat? I am gluten intolerent and cant have much anyway and I nee dairy. All I have is my milk in cereal and yogerts etcnot over board on it but its a big part of diet.

He really does look like he is in pain when trying to poop and sometimes wnot take the nipple its that bad. Been trying to call healthy visitor all morning and no answer.

Anyone else delt with this and what did you do? I dont want to stop breast feeding.

Who told you it was to do with him not digesting milk properly hun?

Silly question but his stools are normal consistency for a BF baby right?

What's your BFing routine? Do you feed from both sides at a feed? How long for? What consistency is his poo?

runny normal breat feeding pooh. And i read that somewhere the not digesting my milk cause i was drinking cows milk. heath visitor said it was normal to have green pooh. Its lumpy sometimes to. I feed for as long as he wants it and do swap boobs from one feed to the next.

Hmmmm I was always told that green poo was a baby getting too much protein rich fore milk and not enough fatty hind milk.

How often is he going?

Just sounds like he's constipated - but that can't be the case if he's still got runny poos.

he poohs alot. once he starts he goes a few times. I chagned him this morning after a big one and he is normal colour now and no blood. Yellow type runny pooh with bits in it. Sorry for benig graphic but need to be here as its not in any books I have that the heath visitir gave me and no one has said what to look out for. He just seems to be in distress before poohing.

I had the same thought as Rafwife about the constipation thing, hence me asking about his stools but if theyre runny it doesnt seem its the actual passing of them thats causing the problem :( ...

I think its wind as he farts a lot and is going mad on me now and i know he is tryin to get one out here. I am worried about teh blood . https://www.indiaparenting.com/diet/data/diet23_01.shtml

whats foremilk and hindmilk???

Green poo occasionally is normal but is a sign that baby's taking in too much lactose which usually occurs in bf babies if they are snacking or not draining the breast and getting to the fatty calorific hind milk which they need to gain weight. The fore milk is the initial milk that quenches babies thirst which is then followed by hind milk which is why its important they stay on one breast until finished. Personally i'd say blood and mucous should be checked out, and if you get it again keep the nappy for someone to look at (bit gross but important) Good news that poo back to normal today though.
Is also very unusual for bf babies to become constipated

Yellow seedy poos are good. Mucus isnt a problem usually. Try not to get into self diagnosis hun - I dont think that you can assume you drinking cows milk is the problem from something you read hun.

Hebe spent the first 2 months of her life farting like crazy!! I think their little systems have to get used to actually coping with anything going through them.

Keep an eye on the poos and make a note of when he has one and what it's like ie. colour, seedy, soft, runny, up his back etc. Then you can see if there is a pattern and show this to your HV for some reassurance at baby clinic.

Fore and hind milk.

Put simply, breast milk is thought to be made up of 2 types of milk. The first milk is the foremilk ie. at the front and this is the thrist quenching milk. The second milk is the hindmilk ie behind the foremilk and this is the fatty belly filling stuff.
When you feed him you should try to make sure he drains the boob properly. Not always easy to do as when you get established, you may find they dont 'fill' as noticably as they first did. Mine dont feel any different now - the milk is producaed on demand.
I always put her back on the same side if she'd wanting more and it's less than 30mids to an hour since she was last on - then I know she's got to the back stuff ;)

I am just waiting o the healthy visitor i was callig her anyway they are in a meeting all morning so I came here and asked just for advice. Not self diagnosing. But the advise is helpful. I think he i gettig all he wants he dosnt demand as much as he did and takes bigger feeds now. his weight gain is excellent. the green pooh seems to be in the evenings only and when i eat a garlic he throws up and yogert makes him windy.

Oh good stuff she should be able to put your mind at rest. :hugs:

It's really good that you've noticed what foods affect him too - I only really found one which was cottage cheese - she puked and puked if I ate that.

Let us know what she says wont you.

And well done fir making it so far - you've done a wonderful job with him so far.

well there has been no more blood and i didnt get a hold of the health visitor i called the breastfeeding helpine instead and the lady was lovely, it was nice to tlk to someone else in a voice as i am usually on my own apart frm William all day. She put my mind at rest and i got so muh info i didnt know. I am not as clued up as I thought an was appreciative of the help. :) also all your help here to. I am so glad of this forum and the good people in it. helped me through my pregnancy an beyond.

Hey honey :hugs:

Glad things have settled down. I've PM'd you xx

Green poo is 'normal' for me its a signal I've been letting Jasper snack too much and I need to be a bit 'tougher' and not let him have comfort sucks between feeds.

I dont know about blood and mucas.... personally that's a trip to the HV.
