My son is 2 years and 4 months, he isn't walking or talking yet. The only diagnoses we've had is gross developmental delay and hyper mobility in his ankles and wrists. He gets physio every 4 weeks and can stand up holding onto things like chairs, the couch, etc. He is seeing someone in the orthotics dept of our local children's hospital in January about getting ankle supports to wear with his shoes.

He says 'hiya' and 'bye bye' and gibbers away in his own language. He also sees a paediatrician every few months but nobody seems to be able to shed any light on things.

He also takes screaming fits when out in public, his face turns bright red, he screams at the top of his lungs and kicks and punches. In the house he is as good as gold and very sociable and affectionate, but among others he goes into himself and doesn't socialise. He doesn't socialise with the other children in his nursery.

I have often wondered about autism. I know it is usually later on a child is diagnosed with autism and my son holds good eye contact, is sociable and affectionate with us and family and friends which would go against this theory. He is also aware of other's emotions so I am not sure what to think. However I have heard that he could still be autistic but be on the lower end of the spectrum?

We just want answers to why he has delays and what makes him behave how he does when outside. It is so frustrating and we feel like nobody seems to know what's wrong and we are going round in circles. One minute we are told by the medical experts that he is showing great progress and the next they are being very dramatic about fact he hasn't done this or that yet.

I don't have any information to help you but want to say hope the drs can give you some answers soon. It is so hard not having explanations and waiting between all the appointments. Hugs

The autistic spectrum is huuuuuge whether he's autistic or not he's doing great with his affection and social behaviour . it may be that he doesn't know how to relate to the outside world yet due to his delays ? If other children his age are doing completely other things interaction will be hard. Don't give up hope . my daughter may be very mildly autistic but she is awesome and a character. X
