Has anyone had a child suffer from growning pains?

My 10 yr old son keeps complaining that one or both of his legs are aching, around the thigh area, and moreso after sport.

I know I should go to gp but mine really are a waste of time they will have us in and out within 30 seconds and dont do a proper check therefore I thought some experienced parents of older kids might have something to offer?

He has recently grown out of trousers height wise so I know he has been through a growth spurt.

Any experiences/advice please?

I'll be stalking this thread - my 6 year old has complained of exactly the same thing for last few days and I think it's growing pains

yes!!!

Its totally normal, My 7 year old on and off for years complains about her legs hurting her, she is tall for her age and always has been, forever growing etc etc and during a growth spurt she will complain her legs hurt.

i also know lots of other children that do and as i teenager i remember that i use to complain to my mum about my legs hurting and she would say 'growing pains'! lol

When i was about 12-13 i used to get really painful achy legs and my mum used to just say they we're "growing pains" which they probably we're as nothing else came of it. I remember it was painful though. x

I used to get this when I was young and I still get it now if I'm cold and tired or if my legs have got wet with the rain for some reason.

My parents took me to alder hey to see a specialist about it as I used to be crying with the pain it hurt sooo bad. I used to get it nearly every day, especially in the winter. My dad used to rub my legs really hard which helped to ease it a bit and then put a hot water bottle on them.

The hospital said it was probably growing pains. I'm 31 now though and still get the exact same thing, thankfully not as often though. It still brings me to tears sometimes as is so painful, but I doubt its still growing pains. xxx

I'm not really sure my5 year old does a lot of physical exercise, he trains with his ice hockey team twice a week ice skates another 3-4 times a week and the rest of the time is on his roller blades and quite often he has leg pains, he has just had a massive spurt though, he was the smallest in his class, even the girls were bigger, but he is now bigger than most of the girls bless the little titch :haha:

Can you get growing pains in your feet, he has complained of sore feet the last few nights?

I dont know,i tried googling it but it seems to be around the thigh area and only at night/in bed.My son sometimes has it other places and during the daytime so I dunno?

Thighs, we have never had pains in the thighs only the calves arghhhh is that normal

I always worry a little with leg pain as he has a popliteal cyst behind one of his knees (cant remember which one, bad mother) but I'm almost sure that this wouldnt cause pain

Hmmmmm may mention it when he is at the doctors tomorrow

I never had growing pains but then I am not tall either :haha:

So I promptly forgot about his painful legs and didnt ask at the doctors today (bad mother), they already think I'm paranoid and a bit a of a loon so rather than make another appointment I will just wait till we have to go back for his blood work results and hope in the mean time his legs dont fall or anything :haha:
