Ok so at my last 2 scans my baby has been measuring 2 weeks ahead. Went for a scan yesterday at 36 weeks and baby is measuring about 40. Baby is now head down not breech and estimated weight is about 8lbs 4.

Anyone else had a big baby at 36 weeks? Just don't want him to get any bigger now! Have to go back not for a scan but just for a checkup. Just worried I'm going to give birth to an 11lber like they said. Surely they can't let me go too big?? :-/ x

Just my recent experience to help....
My baby was diagnosed with Macrosomia (Big Baby Syndrome) at 28 weeks. Always measuring 4 weeks bigger than he should. I had a growth scan at 36 weeks and some days which put baby at 8lbs 9oz. Everyone kept telling me "Oh they can be off a pound or so..." Well, they were right. My doctor was very nervous that my baby would get stuck if I didn't go into labor soon. She decided to do a C-Section 4 days after that scan.... My baby weighed 10lbs 5 oz born at 37 weeks.

No telling how big he would have been.... They shouldn't let you go too far and baby get too big. As long as your doctor is watching, everything should be fine.

People always say that the scans can be off.... not to worry.... The scans can be off either way. Mine was off a pound.... a pound too small.

Good luck.

I'm also having a big baby although not quite as big by the sounds he was 7lb 3 on growth scan at 35 weeks. I have told them I'm not keen to go past my due date since my first born got stuck for 2 hours and started getting distressed he was born on his due date at nearly 9lb so they have agreed that I can have sweeps from 39 weeks and induction at 40 weeks. Can I ask what your measurements were of babys head and belly etc?? They should be on scan report xx

Thanks for your responses ladies. I just get a feeling they are going to leave me to get bigger and worried I won't be able to push him out and with the extra fluid there's more complications. Don't like not being in control and like to,be mentally prepared.

The baby's head and belly measurements are off the scale. HC - 357.0mm AC - 354.0mm

I guess I'll just have to wait till my 38 week appt with the dr at the hospital. Do you think they may do a sweep then if I tell them I'm not comfortable being left to my due date. If it's around 8lb now then it's going to be about 10lbs if I'm left to it and quite scared!! X

There's no harm in asking Hun but not sure they wouldn't do anything to help me along with my son even though scan showed he was big I had to wait until I went into labor naturally as they can expect the scan to be wrong so baby may not actually be that big this has happened in a lot of cases. They are just giving me sweeps early at 39 weeks because they are going off my first sons weight and now with scan measuring baba big they not taking chances. My LO HC was 350mm at 35 weeks and AC 340mm both noted on the 97 percentile.

Best thing you can do is have a word with your consultant and mention your concerns but unless they got any worries about why you wouldn't be able to deliver big baby with no problems then I think you will just have to take it as it comes xx

My daughter was estimated to be very large, so I was talked into an elective c-section.

While she wasn't teeny tiny, she wasn't huge by any means. She was meant to be 4.5kg, and she was 3.6kg. Her HC was 35cm at birth, the same as they measured it at 35 weeks. She was 2.5" shorter than the scans estimated.

She's still happily fitting her newborn clothing.
