Hi girls

So just back from my growth scan after initially being told bubs was on the small side and not gaining as much as they would have liked....

Here are my measurements: (36wks +3days)

Head circumference: 317.8mm
Femur lenght: 70.9mm
Abdominal circumference: 317.8mm
BPD: 87.9mm
Estimated fetal weight: 6lb 2.2oz

Now........this does not seem like a small baby to me for the amount of weeks......seen as 2 weeks ago we had another scan and bubs estimated weight was: 4lbs 4oz. They told me I was not consuming enough calories and I needed to eat more as the baby needed to grow etc (really freaked me out and made me feel terrible for not eating enough)!

I am quite a small person, a UK sie 8 pre pregnancy and am now worrying if I go 2 weeks overdue this baby may easily weigh 9lb+!

Anyone had a smiliar experience? I know these scans can be quite dodgy and not very accurate. Looking for some reassurance really..........

Oh and the placenta has moved so I can have a natural birth......yay for this! :happydance:

Thanks x

No experience of this but in would say if your baby stays put until the due date it seems a great average weight. All the 36 w emails I get sent say baby weighs around 6lbs so it seems spot on.

Hi, Check out this really good website, maybe american but I am in a similar situation, they are worried as I was measuring small but the measurements at 21 weeks were slightly bigger than average, I may have a big baby (I was size 8 8st 1 before pregnancy - now at wk 28 I am 9st 11lbs. Got a 3 growth scans next week and then 32/36 weeks. Looking at the chart below- you need to scroll down the page to see the week and measuremnts, you measurements look similar to the 36 weeks, as the measuremnts in brackets are are +/- variations. I prefer to have scans as think they are more accurate than the tape measure but speak to different midwifes as sometimes they say different things, its my first baby. Good luck !:hugs:

Thanks ladies :)

Just seems so strange in 2 weeks for there to be so much difference.

I will be 36 weeks tomorrow and am off to hospital for growth scan as baby is measuring big, will update with anything i find out tomorrow not that it helps? lol sure everything will be fine tho and remember its just an estimate on size could tell u 10lbs and they only end up half the weight. all the best x

my bubs was 5lb 12oz at 32 weeks and 6lb 8oz at 35w 1d.

He had a large tum measring 37weeks at 35 weeks but nothing to worry about.

If you try www.baby2see.com there is a section you can put all your measurements in and it tells you all the percentiles etc its really good and comforting when you realise things are normal.

Ive been told to expect a 8/9lb baby too !

Apparently babies can slow down in growth towards the end (probably more from 38 weeks though) and in general a women's weight stays more stable after 36 weeks and can even drop some after 38 weeks. Try not to worry too much. I know I had a growth scan at 36 weeks last time, but have forgotten the measurement because I had another at 38 weeks when they predicted spot on what she was - she was born 2 days after that scan. Your baby sounds within normal limits for a 36 week scan.

I had a growth scan at 35 weeks 3 days and baby was estimated at 5lbs 13 oz adn they said taht was perfect. At 32 weeks he was estimated at 3lbs 4oz. I think your baby is doing just fine.

I had one today at 37+3. Didn't get all the measurements besides her weight. She is estimated to be 6lbs 14oz and in the 64th percentile.

I had a growth scan at 36 weeks and they said Mirren was 6lb 2oz! same as yours......She was born 1 day past her due date weighing exactly 9lb!:dohh: None of the clothes I took into hospital for her fitted:shrug:

i had one wednesday as my other 2 babies were small and they were thinking they'd have to deliver there and then... my baby's estimated weight is 6lb 3 now which is a good weight they told me! that was at 36 weeks 5 days. but my others were teeny so maybe thats why :)

Hi hun, they told me at 35 weeks that Poppy would be a maximum of 5lb 4-6 if i got to 40 weeks, she was born 8 days later weighing 6lb 10! I wouldn't worry too much xxx

Hi Ladies,

Thanks to all that replied, I have only just had a chance for my daily dose of BnB!

I am glad to hear you all telling me all seems fine!

Silly hospitals just like to scare us unnecessarily!

I really dont mind what bubs weighs as long as the baby is healthy - baby could be 6lbs and healthy or alternatively could be 11lbs and just as healthy! I dont care, as long as the baby is not too small or big that it affects its health (I hate calling baby "it" but we are still team yellow, so forgive me)!

My nephew was 4lbs when born and he is a fine size now! They grow so quickly I am sure they all catch up with one another pretty rapidly.

Thanks all xx

I just said to my OH, if some of the clothes are too small he will have to bring them back to donate for the hospital! Luckily we've bought a range of newborn, 0-3 months and even 3-6 months! I am hoping we at least have something to fit the chunky little monkey :haha:

Seriously though, I just firstly cant wait to see baby and secondly hold baby and then thirdly to see what baby is (I think boy)!

Im sure babies weight will be the last thing on my mind! xx

I had a growth scan at 36 weeks and one day, a couple of days ago (because my last baby was so big - 9 pounds and 12 ounces) and they said that this baby looked only slightly bigger than average. I have similar results to you:

HC: 332 mm
AC: 321 mm
FL: 69.3 mm

hi ya. i had a scan at 36 weeks and my little girl weighed 6lb and my midwife was saying she would only be 6lb! I went six days overdue and I was also scared she would be a 8lb plus... she only weighed 6lb 12 in the end.

I had growth scan at 36 +4 and measured smaller than you and hospital said it was FINE! Can't believe they told you to eat more...is it because baby started off growing quickly and then tailed off?

For some reason the haven't recorded HC or BPC but for comparison FL was 67mm and AC was 306mm. Estimated weight 5lb 5oz.

I'm only 5ft 1" tall, UK size 10-12 and even though bump still small for weeks (I'm two days overdue but only measuring 36cm bump) my midwife thinks it fits my size.

Did they plot your results on a graph thing - I find those quite reassuring as they show that "normal" growth spans quite a large range of sizes.

Hi,

It was at the 34wk scan they told me to consume more calories - bubs was weighing around 4lbs at that point - so did grow over 2lbs in 2 weeks lol!

I am also small, UK size 8/10 normally and 5ft 3......but they were fine with the 36wk scan - said bubs was now measuring normally, if a little big!

I just feel like you cant win with the hospitals sometimes - conflicting advice constantly!

So anyway, I am now awaiting my LO, kinda scared bubs will be a bigg'un, I really have sprouted in the last few weeks - so I can well believe LO was 6lbs back then as it feels like baby weighs about a stone now lol :haha:

Im not reading too much into it, Im not forcing myself to eat now they are happy with size, I am eating as and when Im hungry!

xx
