i don't know why but this really irritates me. i've been looking for sites to get advice and support about breastfeeding and there's giant flashing adverts from formula companies.

right now this doesn't matter to me but i know for a fact as a woman seriously struggling with breastfeeding, feeling crappy and desperate them adverts do NOT help

grrrrrr

It is ridiculous! We should launch a campaign or something to stop it! It's not fairfor companies to target women in difficulty for profit!

Lots of adverts try and be related to the info on the page you are viewing, so because breast milk isn't advertised per se, it doesn't surprise me that formula would show up. I have an adblocker on my browser anyway, so I never see ads.

Baby and Bump carries formula adverts.

Some formula companies also sponsor websites (such as Babble and WebbMD) and offer "helplines"....

It is a real, real issue.

i've never had a formula advert come up on here! besides its not AS bad as many people choose to formula feed on here anyway, on bf help websites its sort of the opposite lol. saying that, formula companies shouldn't advertise anywhere anyway lol! xx

If they're google generated ads then the site has little control over what appears except to retroactively request an advertisement not show up. It sucks, and doesn't reflect well on the sites in question but no doubt they don't like it anymore than their viewers but have to advertise to cover costs and keep running.

Contact the site administrators and let them know how you feel about it and be sure to mention the ads in question and hopefully they'll take action!

but i use other websites such as a midwifery website for my studies and they said that you choose the ads. it generates ads to do with the topic that is on the site BUT you can specify if there are any you DON'T want

I found this recently and it really annoyed me. I was googling 'low milk supply and breastfeeding' for a friend and lots of ads for formula companies appeared. Granted when you clicked on the link it took you to a page on their site with breastfeeding advice but it's just a subtle form of advertising to vulnerable women :nope:
