my first scan at 9 weeks was amazing but they did it to make me happy in the high risk office ( im high risk since I have Crohns ) And on week 9 they peeked and counted the heartbeats. but this time at 12 1/2 weeks the scan was in a lab so the machine was better and you could see SO much more! It was even more amazing to see that litte bugger moving around and swimming SO active the ultrasound tech said and seeing better pics I cried pretty much the entire time ! LOL
the baby was in A perfect spot today to tell the sex (even though its a bit early) The baby was fully wanting to cooperate ! YAY.. ...And I really was NOT prepared to get this news today but the ultrasound tech said she is 90%certain. we are looking at a BOY !
If you look at Picture 3 you can see that pee pee sticking up...OH MY GOD ! And of course she said we will reconfirm next ultrasound. ( not sure yet when that one is ) They may re-scan me on Feb 5th at the Dr's office. But oh ...... WHAT A SHOCKER ! ! !

I cant beleive how vivid the scan is ! Amazing im in AWWW

Thats really cool !!! I didn't realise they could tell the sex so early !!! Congrats, boys are gorgeous xx

WOW! I didn't know you could find out so early! you are lucky and ur LO was being so cooperative! lol congrats!!!:happydance:

I had a high risk scan this week but they wouldn't let me look as they said that it would be too small to see anything. I can't wait until I get to see mine too! Those pictures are amazing, I am so happy for you!

Congrats on the boy! I wouldn't over induldge on boy things if I were you though. I was watching this video and all babys start out with "pertruding" parts, if you know what I mean. A boys just stay out, and a girls sucks in to become the inside area (in the video about developing). I dont know how far along this happens though, and I imagine it would be pretty early.

is the arrow pointing to his bits in the third pic? I thought it was a leg lol

you know , I have friends saying the samething and bottom line is the baby is healthy and im thrilled about that, I dont dont see why a ultrasound Dr would put her Rep on the line and say 90% chance but she also did say she wanted to rescan to reconfirm at 20 weeks, im not stressing over it at all, a healthy baby is all that matters ! :crib:

Congratulations!!! :blue:

On the subject of "early diagnosis of fetal gender", an article by B J Whitlow et al, entitled "First trimester diagnosis of gender" which appeared in the Journal: Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology 1999; 13:301–304 addressed this issue.

This study addresses the question of first trimester diagnosis of fetal gender by assessing the outcome of 447 women who had normal transabdominal ultrasound sometimes complemented with transvaginal ultrasound (26%) when the genitals were not clearly visible. Patients were scanned between 11 and 14 weeks and were referred for assessment of fetal anatomy. In families with X-linked disorders, fetal gender is determined by chorionic villus sampling (CVS) with 99% accuracy and ultrasound would also need to reach this level of accuracy. The discovery of a female fetus on ultrasound would avoid an invasive test with its risk of miscarriage.

Results showed that the overall success rate of gender identification between 12 and 14 weeks was 80% which is less than invasive karyotyping. In the transverse plane, male fetuses showed a dome shaped genital swelling with a cephalic-directed phallus and females had three or four parallel lines representing the labia. The gender of the fetus did not affect the operator’s ability to assign gender and when assignment was possible gender did not affect the accuracy. The ability to assign gender increased with increasing gestational age.
