I had a cone biopsy done in December and then ended up getting pregnant in March. I've started to look into the incompetent cervix issue and am becoming increasingly alarmed about it, now that I'm 19 weeks. I have an ultrasound on Friday, but they won't be doing it internally.

Can they look at the cervix with an internal or does it have to be ultrasound? I'm starting to think that I should make an extra doctors appointment to speak to them about it. Gah, I hate feeling paranoid, but I'm so worried about it.

Hi - I had LLETZ procedure about 6 years ago and I should have had an internal cervical scan at 16 weeks.

Due to some miscommunications I didnt have it until 20 weeks and have a lovely 3.65cm cervix :p

I will need another at 23 weeks.

I think this is all precaution though rather than actual concern iyswim - I would speak to your main halthcare provider to see what they advise.

You can ask for an internal and let them know about your past procedures also let your doc know this is a concern of yours

I think you should be scanned asap before 20 weeks even. Do you doctors know you got the cone biopsy?

Ok so here is the current situation. I've been having some slight cramping, which I know could be nothing.......but I'm freaking out now.

I called the docs office this morning, they won't do anything because I haven't had any "bleeding". My doctor and his nurse are both on vacation as well. They told me to call my OBs office. I called the OBs office and explained the whole situation. The reason I booked with that OB/GYN is because she is the one who did my cone biopsy. Well because they haven't seen me yet for the pregnancy (my first appointment there is on the 29th) they won't do anything either. GAHHHHHHHH.

So after giving the receptionist a firm tongue lashing, I'm going to the ER. If none of the my own health care practitioners care to help me, I'll find help elsewhere. All I want is an internal scan on my cervix to check if its ok. I'm not willing to "wait and see" if the life of my child is in jeopardy.

I've been crying all morning, I'm just so frustrated. I'm not acting like some over-zealous mum-to-be.......this is a legitimate concern.

How come you havent had an appointment yet when you are 19+ weeks? Have you not had a dating scan yet?

Anyhoo, thats seperate, did you go to the ER? How did you get on?

Jo

PS The bit I have hightlighted is RIGHT, dont let anyone tell you otherwise :D

where do you live? In London you can have a private scan to measure your cervix for £50.

Ok, just got home from the hospital. I spent 4 hours there last night, only to be given a visual check of my cervix. The doctor was completely rude, telling me that "If you're losing the baby, theres nothing we can do.......you're not 24 weeks" :(

I went back today for an ultrasound, but they ended up doing my full 20 week scan. My cervix is 4cm, which they are saying is perfectly fine. Baby is GREAT and I found out....................I'm on team :blue:

That's awesome. 4cm is really really good. Try to relax now :)

I have had 2 prems and i think that the 24 week rule is a load of garbage. I would hate to think that if i went into labor before 24 weeks that they wouldn't give me meds to try to stop it. I asked my nurse buddy and she said if i insisted they would have to but i live in Australia, i don't know if that applies anywhere else. Letting a baby die because of its gestation is so wrong when they do have the ability to stop it.

Yes, I'm very relieved now. I feel like I can breathe for the first time in a few days.

I am glad to hear you found out everything is ok with your cervix. also congrats on team blue sweetie. I think you did the right thing by demanding to be seen. xx

Thank you. It was a long wait, but in the long run knowing that the LO is fine is worth every minute. Because of this whole situation, I'm seriously considering changing to a midwife.

I go to a practice with OBs and MWs so I get the best of both worlds. If theres one like that in your area I highly recommend it! I switched from my original OB also because I was sick of her constant medical interventionist style yano?
