Had HSG today...bad news

Just wanted to drop in and say good luck to all the ladies that have their appointments today!!!! Please keep us updated!

Afm, been having af cramps on and off, she is due today or tomorrow. Once she shows her face i will get the ball rolling on my first iui.

Hi everyone - I know this thread is a bit old but...I had my HSG today and have a perfect right tube but potential small hydrosalpinx on the left side. I have a follow-up in two weeks with the FS to get the final radiology report.

My question is - I just read that hydrosalpinx should be removed prior to IVF to increase chances of success, as they seem to inhibit implantation for some reason. Has anyone else had a doctor tell them that? Or has anyone had a doctor say to proceed with IVF without removing the affected tube(s)?

Hi there,

I came across your post, since I had a HSG recently. I also have a high pain threshold, I have a pretty bad neck issue and have had severe debilitating pain. The HSG was so uncomfortable that I nearly fainted as well. I remember feeling the table move and it wasn't moving :headspin:and I felt like I was upside down...so odd. I think it's because it's such an unnatural feeling. To answer your question, it really depends. Since you have one perfectly open tube, they may decide not to. It's really up to what you want to endure as well. Some would be more comfortable removing it all and then going with the IVF but some would rather just try with the one. Good luck to you :flower:

Hi, sorry to hear your news, I know how you're feeling at the moment, it's awful not knowing what's going on. It's probably good that the hydro is small - I had an internal ultrasound on Wednesday and the doctor told me that they weren't able to tell for sure but mine also looks small, and if this is also the consultant's view, they will not remove my tubes. However if they are unsure they may do a laparoscopy as this is the only way to tell the true size of the hydro. She said the tubes can often spasm during HSG making them look worse.

The thought is very daunting having them removed but I would rather know and increase the chance of my IVF working. I have to wait until 12th November for my next appointment with the consultant and I can't stop thinking about it! When is your next consultation? Stay positive that one of your tubes is still good, could you even have the chance of conceiving naturally if they removed the one hydro?? Good luck :hugs:

I had my HSG in July as well, test showed possible bilaterial blockage (both tubes) right where the tubes meet the uterus. First issue was the doctor performing the test said my cervix was larger than the catheder she was using, that the catheder was smaller and kept falling out, so instead of stopping and changing the catheder she tried to complete the test anyway, I was soaked from the middle of my gown down to the bottom full of dye, she actually ran out of dye and had to get the tech to bring her more, I had so much dye on my gown and very little leakage afterward! So the end results were it appeared both tubes were blocked at the uterus, I think she just didnt perform the test correctly, my FS decided that we need to do a lap/dye/hysteroscopy to truly either confirm blockage or rule it out, my lap is scheduled for this Friday. The HSG was very painful for myself as well, not something I look forward to ever having to do again!

Hi Ladies!

I too was just diagnosed with hydrosalpinx on Friday. I have been TTC for 4 years and found out my tubes were blocked at the distal end one year ago/ I had a lap donewhich temporarily opened my tubes but I was told hey were not hydro. Either I got PID from the procedure or I was misdiagnosed because they are both, in fact, hydro. I was devastated as I'm sure you ladies were as well. I've done m research and I know I have a few options. I can do another lap to have my RE diagnose the severity of the tubal damage and either remove them and move onto IVF or keep them and have them aspirated (drained) prior to transfer with IVF to increase the changes of a BFP.
I know I'm a few months behind on this thread but what did you all decide to do?
My follow up is 1/18 and I need to know my options. I'm desperately looking for success stories from women in my situation.
Sorry to hear about everyone else's tubal factor infertility- I hope you all get your miracle baby soon!

Kcarey, I'm so sorry to hear of your hydrosalpinxes. It's so devastating when you find out that there's no possible way to have a baby on your own. :hugs::hugs::hugs:

When I previously posted they had told me I had a hydrosalpinx, but during laproscopy it turned out that my tube had a funny pocket on it but was in fact patent. So we're trying IUI right now, but if it doesn't work this month we're on to IVF. I have a strong feeling that we will get pregnant w/ IVF, but not before.

My RE had planned to remove the bad tube during the lap if it was hydro, and felt strongly that it was important to do so in order for IVF to be successful. At that time I didn't know that the fluid could just be aspirated, so I didn't ask, and he didn't bring it up as an option either.

Let me know what your RE says!

Hi
Sorry to hear about your diagnosis. Unfortunately I'm still waiting for a lap (NHS waiting lists, don't even know when it will be yet ) they will either remove, drain or clip my tubes depending on the severity of what they find. I've also been referred for IVF which will likely be a few months after my lap. I'm calling the hospital tomorrow to chase up my referral, my impatience isn't helping I know!
I know exactly what you're going through, it's so hard to come to terms with but I have hope for us all and I'm feeling positive if not impatient about the whole thing. It will be so much more special when it eventually happens. With our problem, there's no reason why the IVF shouldn't work so let's keep our fingers and toes crossed xxx

My appointment is on the 18th with my RE so I wll update everyone on what my options are. I believe aspiration of hydro tubes prior to transfer is a new technique so I'm not sure I want to experiment with something so new.
Thanks for all the kind words and advise.
