Had my first appointment today and got an ultrasound! Question...

I went to the OB GYN today and I had an ultrasound. I was a little surprised since Im barely over 5 weeks but oh well! I have a picture now! My little peanut!! I have to go back in a week and have another ultrasound. Im not sure why... the baby is still in the yolk sac and they couldnt hear the heartbeat yet, but its still so early. Is it weird that they are doing back to back ultrasounds??

I had an ultra sound at 5 1/2 weeks and then 7 weeks. They just wanted to make sure they could see the heart beat because the chances of miscarriage dramatically decreases after they've seen the heartbeat.

Hmm it is kind of strange that they want to do another one so soon. Could they see the heart at least? HEre's some information that I found

"The embryonic heart starts beating 22 days after conception, or about five weeks after the last menstrual period, which by convention we call the fifth week of pregnancy. The heart at this stage is too small to hear, even with amplification, but it can sometimes be seen as a flickering in the chest if an ultrasound is done as early as four weeks after conception."

So maybe they didnt see it yet and they just want to be sure. But it will be a little while yet to hear it. But it is a very neat experience! U should post up your scan pic

you have to remember too, that you dont actually "concept" (because I cannot spell conceeeeeve... lol) until about 2 weeks after your period .. so if you are 5 weeks, your baby is technically only about 3..

My 5 week scan showed nothing but a yolk sac. It wasn't untill the 7+2 one that I could see buba ("fetus"), and they got the heartbeat
