Hi all,

This is my first pregnancy so this is all very new to me and I could be worried/annoyed for no reason!

So I had my NT scan at 13 weeks this morning (which went brilliantly thankfully!) and my referral was marked "to be given prints" but I was given a disc instead - I thought no problem, I can just put onto my computer anyway and go get them printed. But when I got home I noticed the disc cover is sealed with a sticker saying "ONLY TO BE OPENED BY THE REFERRING DOCTOR".

So my first reaction was to try to get an appointment with my doctor - even though the scan technician said there was no need - but she is unavailable for the next 2 weeks. I have my first appointment in my maternity ward in 2 weeks anyway but will they give me the prints then?

It seems like a silly thing to be flustered about but my partner and I were really looking forward to - and relieved about - announcing my pregnancy next week. I could easily get over it and wait til the following week and my maternity appointment to get prints - but if I attend that and still no prints I'm going to be very confused!

Just hoping for some insight from others who have already gone through this stage

I've never heard of this happening. I'd open the disc x

Hmm odd, I did actually open it and even put it in the computer but it came up asking for the "doctor confirm your patients consent to view files" and I was like okay no that's definitely for the doctor. It might be different because I'm in Australia? From the sounds of every thing our health system is very different - and a little odd - compared to the rest of the world

I decided I'd just forget about the doctor only thing and look...put it back in the computer and now my computer is saying its a blank disc! :( So worried now

This IS very odd! I'm in Aus too and all my images were on a disc and they were intended for me. I was able to see everything, including the doc's report of the scan.

Was this at a hospital or a specialised obstetric ultrasound place?

Ah I'm so confused :( It was done at the scan department of the hospital I've been referred to. It was my first time visiting there so now I'm so worried my midwives (which are a small team or 2-3 I'm yet to meet) are going to think I'm that idiot woman that looked at the disc! The disc seems to be blank now and I'm stressing out about what to do

Thanks so much for your help ladies - just wanted to update mid-panic I tried the disc and it was no longer "blank" so not sure what happened there but now looking at my photos and hopefully will work when and if the midwives ask for it in 2 weeks! xx

I'm a little jealous you Aus ladies get your pictures on a disc! I wonder why they don't do that here? I bet there's not much in it cost wise...

I love my midwifes office for this reason.. They give us prints, and a recording on a dad of the every ultrasound you get!
Yay for being able to view it :)

Super strange!!! I'm in aus too and I've never been given a disc haha. Only ever prints in a big envelope with like 8 small pics to a page. But then again, I've never had my scans at the hospital, always at a scan place close to my house, so maybe that's why?
If it makes you feel any better, I would have done exactly the same thing-- contemplated looking, freaking out, worrying about the midwives thinking I'm silly... The whole shebang haha :)
Congrats on your results!!!

So cool to see other Aussies on here!

I get a DVD movie recording of the whole scan and a USB with over 100 pics on it. It's through a private obstetric ultrasound place that my obstetrician sends her patients to.

I hope you get answers soon Prada. :hugs:

A DVD would be amazing, on the outer herbrides I got a few pics but where we've moved to we have to pay, during the first scan it was £2 per pic and the second scan was £2 for about 9 lol. I'd love to have something like that to show the family :).

Thanks for your kind words everyone! The scan place got back to me and said that I actually should've been given a folder with prints as well - pretty annoying but oh well! I'll just print from the disc. Yes having a DVD recording would be incredible! It's interesting what scan places do differently around the world

I'm so glad it's pretty much sorted out for you now.

I must add that the place I go to charges quite a bit for the scan so it's definitely not free although we do get some money back from Medicare (I think).

Thank you :) looking back I can't believe how stressed about it I got lol! It can just get so confusing and frustrating when you're pregnant for the first time and don't really understand the protocol of everything.
Oh yes I know scan places can charge quite a bit - originally I booked in with QScan and they quoted me $280 (even with Medicare) for the NT scan. Luckily my doctor then told me that if I went to my referred maternity ward they would do it completely bulk billed, was a relief!

Qscan??? I think we live in the same state! :haha:

I went to QUFW.
