so last night LeeAnne was soooooooo mucusy in her nose and mouth that we had to take her to the hospital. she was choking on it and couldn't breath, she would start to convulse! it was sooooooo scary i had no idea what to do. turns out because she was born early this is quiet common in babies. the doctors said to use saline drops in her nose. does anyone know if it actually works??

ive used them i wud say it loosens it so its easyier to come out if that makes sence,...obviously its worth a try xx

Saline drops do help loosen it up but you may want one of those aspirators (bulb thingys) to help bring the mucus out

Just what Vickie said!!!

Hope she feels better soon!

Agree with the girls hun, do give it a try.

Hope shes feeling better soon!!

Do I use it after I put the drops in her nose or just use it when shes mucusy? I tried to use it last night but I think I was just so nervous and panicing I didn't really know how to use the bulb thingy..I dont think I put it far enough in her nose.

use it after I think is what most people do. We rarely used saline drops but used the aspirator quite often during the early months. Hannah hated it and screamed bloody murder but it did a great job clearing the mucus

I find turning the shower on, closing the door& taking her in works better than saline drops.

Another thing that does help is cool air. Bringing her outside will help clear it as well. And, although you may not want to do this, at night make sure she's wrapped up nice and warm and leave a window open a tiny bit.

Poor thing! :hugs:

Amanda used to be like that until she was a toddler. She choked on her phlegm a lot and once I actually called the ambulance only to have it cancelled.

Scary stuff, glad she is OK.
We have been putting some karvol into steaming water in the nursery to help Thomas with his cold/stuffy nose.
We used saline drops when it was really bad before feeds so he could breath - like everyone says, it loosens it up nicely.

Ellie was really poorly when she was 3 weeks old the saline drops worked quite well. Much have been really scary hope shes ok.

Hope she's better soon. The saline drops work for us. x
